Ronnie James Dio

I realize there was a topic that started soon after the news of the death of Ronnie James Dio, however, I thought I would start another topic about this Awesome Singer and Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Pioneer.

I still am really sad that Dio is no longer alive on this Planet. Especially after I watched the tribute to RJD on "That Metal Show" a few days ago. As much as I Love Led Zeppelin and other hard rock and heavy metal bands and Music, I would have to say that there are only about 10, maybe 15 people in the whole world of "Music" that I will be very sad when they no longer inhabit this Earth.

Ronnie James Dio is one of those people in my top 10. Probably closer to my top 5. Since I watched that tribute on "TMS" I have been listening to alot of RJD on YouTube. Rainbow, Black Sabbath, solo Dio, etc.. When I was a teenager me and my friends would get really stoned and literally crank to volume 10 "Heaven and Hell" "Neon Knights", "Mob Rules", "Holy Diver", "Last in Line", "We Rock", "Rainbow in the Dark", "King of Rock and Roll" "Man on the Silver Mountain", and dozens more. Not to mention the whole "Live Evil" album.

Although I have always been a Fan and Loved Dio and his Voice and Music (since the very first day and song of His I ever heard), I guess it is really true when people say that once someone is really gone You tend to Appreciate them a little more. I always appreciated Ronnie but I guess I just seem to miss Him more now that I know I will never get to see him perform live ever again. I did see him once in Sauget, Illinois (across the Mississippi river and over the bridge from Saint Louis, Missouri). That was one of the best shows I have ever been to because it was in some very small club that only held a couple of hundred people.

I LOVE YOU AND REALLY, REALLY MISS YOU, MR. RONNIE JAMES DIO. "YOU ROCK!!!"...

We had a chance to write Dio a get well note on the deeppurplehub. After some weeks these notes were bundled into a book and given to him which he very much appeciated.

As far as I can remember I wrote to him that the first thing I ever heard his voice on was "Love is all" and that it took me years to figure out that he wasn't a frog after all.

So here we go,

will everybody sing along...haha

Rock on brother. I hear ya. Ronnie was amazing. From the first time I heard Heaven and Hell right up until the end ronnie james dio was near the top of my list as well. I was lucky enough to see him several times.

I saw the mob rules tour. That was the first one.will never forget the sign of the southern cross lighting up the entire place.

I saw the dehumanizer tour in poughkeepsie. got too drunk to remember that one. Then came Heaven and Hell which I was lucky enough to see

when they first got back together and then again on the second leg of the tour with Motorhead. I will never forget because we were fourth row and my friend tipped his beer to ronnie and

he smile and gave thethumbs up. One of those Kodak f'ing moments. Then his final show in the US was at the

House of Blues at the showboat casino, atlantic city, nj. 8/29/09. I snuck my camcorder in so I could record the show and got alot of it but got

busted by security and almost bumped out of the place. I will never forget that one when he came over to my side of the stage. He is just soooo

cool in every way. A true showman onstage. sings his heart out every night. Will never ever forget his unbeleivably unique voice and his rock and roll soul.

the stage. He is just soooo cool. Will never forget you Mr. Dio.

I've been on kind of a Dio kick lately. Well, it started with a Cozy Powell kick, which led from Jeff Beck to Rainbow. So I got that DVD of Rainbow live, and just couldn't believe how great Ronnie was on that, the star of the show. Perfectly in tune, just a stunning performance. I've had 'The Gates of Babylon' in heavy rotation lately. I met Ronnie once, he was in the next room at a rehearsal studio in Burbank, he had Vinnie Appice on drums. I couldn't believe how short he was, haha. But he was such a cool cat, really gentle and polite to everyone there. What a voice though. One of the best ever, for sure.

Don't know if you Facebook, but I've subscribed/liked (whatever) to his fan page, they post a lot of info and clips pretty much daily, pretty cool.

Saw Dio in August 1982, at CNE Grandstand in Toronto when he was with Black Sabbath. I think it was the second leg of the Mob Rules Tour. What a great concert.

Then I saw him solo at the same venue in 1985. Another great concert. Both times his vocal range was unbelievable.

He is definitely missed.

Thanks to those who have brought this topic "back to life". I just wish it was in anyone's Power to bring Ronnie James Dio back to life. However, anytime anyone plays any Dio song, that will keep and promote the Great Life of One of the Best Singers of All-Time. The Awesome and Long-Living, Mr. Ronnie James Dio.

I have said this before and will say it again. Ronnie James Dio is/was the Greatest Singer of All-Time (after Robert Plant, of course). I do not care what anyone else thinks, whether they agree with me or disagree with me. Dio and the Songs He sang are a part of Rock and Roll and/or Heavy Metal History.

I really miss you Ronnie.

You might be right! At least we can all agree that he wasn’t the greatest lyricist

SCORPIONS Recording Cover Of RAINBOW's 'Temple Of The King' For RONNIE JAMES DIO Tribute Album

Scorpions guitarist Matthias Jabs revealed in an interview with Classic Rock Revisited that this band is recording a cover of Rainbow's "Temple Of The King" for inclusion on the upcoming Ronnie James Dio tribute album. The collection, which is being assembled by the singer's widow and longtime manager Wendy Dio, will also tentatively include contributions from Metallica, Anthrax, Judas Priest's Rob Halford, Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister, Deep Purple's Ian Gillan, Alice Cooper, Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath), Halestorm, Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Chris Jericho (Fozzy) and Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters).

"I'm letting them pick what songs they wanna do in the way they wanna do it," Wendy told Artisan News in 2011.

The Dio tribute album will see Grohl covering Black Sabbath's "The Mob Rules", Halford contributing a version of Rainbow's "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" and Halestorm delivering a rendition of Dio's "Straight Through The Heart".

"We reached out to Wendy Dio about wanting to be a part of the Dio tribute that's getting put together," Metallica singer James Hetfield told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine. "We're very honored to be a part of that, and to be a part of a celebration of Ronnie's life and his great contribution, man."

In an interview with Guitar International, former Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano stated that the band's cover version of "Neon Knights" "came out pretty smoking."

Ronnie James Dio, best known for his work with Black Sabbath, Rainbow and his own band Dio, died of stomach cancer on May 16, 2010 at the age of 67.
