The first one that comes to mind is Bruce Springsteen's ..The River. It hit a cord back in the 80's for me as it was so accurate. Not a feel sorry for me type of song , just an accurate statement of how all of us blue collar guy's who took on jobs that we thought were safe, began to realize that they weren't anymore. At the time, it was a great message about responsability and the priority's of life. Still is I suppose for anyone who is still listening to Bruce for some direction

Absolutely ! He wrote many a song that related to economy, and the changes in ones life that can come from that. I'm On Fire would fall in there. Atlantic City too

I've got holes in both of my shoes

Well I'm a walkin' case of the blues

Saw a dollar yesterday

But the wind blew it away

Goin' back to Houston, Houston, Houston

Goin' Back To Houston---Dean Martin

From the rock group Pro-Pain:

YOUNG, DUMB AND HELPLESS - IN THE STATES

YOU SAY YOU AIN'T GOT NO MONEY - I CAN RELATE

I LOST MY JOB AND MY HOUSE AND MY - PIECE OF MIND

WE'RE IN THE DEEPEST DEPRESSION OF - MODERN TIME

A THOUSAND POINTS OF LIGHT SHININ' - IN MY FACE

EYES ARE BLINDED BY A CAN OF REPUBLICAN MACE

SHININ' SEAS OF STARVING PEOPLE ARE THE - UNEMPLOYED

STARS AND STRIPES ARE RUBBER CHECKS - NULL AND VOID

WE ARE THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE THAT YOU BLEED

WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO SURVIVE AND SUCCEED

WORTHLESS AND WEAK IS "BE ALL YOU CAN BE"

DEMOCRACY LEAVES A FOUL TASTE OF FREEDOM IN ME

BUDGET CUTS AND TAX HIKES - CRUSH THE LAND

OF PLENTY, SEE THE WEAK DIE BY GODS HAND

IF YOU'RE PROUD OF YOUR COUNTRY THEN YOU'RE PROBABLY RICH

BUF IF YOU'RE FED UP YOU BETTER PISS, MOAN AND BITCH

YANKEE DOODLE DICKWEED WENT TO TOWN

APPLE PIE AND CHEVROLET SHOT HIM DOWN

A PATRIOTIC, FATHEADED, SUCKER, FREAK

IS PROUD TO SERVE THE COUNTRY THAT HAD SERVED HIM WEAK...

Woody Guthrie

"I AIN'T GOT NO HOME"

I ain't got no home, I'm just a-roamin' round,

Just a wandrin' worker, I go from town to town.

And the police make it hard wherever I may go

And I ain't got no home in this world anymore.

My brothers and my sisters are stranded on this road,

A hot and dusty road that a million feet have trod;

Rich man took my home and drove me from my door

And I ain't got no home in this world anymore.

Was a-farmin' on the share, and always I was poor;

My crops I lay into the banker's store.

My wife took down and died upon the cabin floor,

And I ain't got no home in this world anymore.

I mined in your mines and I gathered in your corn

I been workin' mister since the day that I was born

I worry all the time like I never did before

'Cause I ain't got no home in this world anymore

Now as I look round, it's mighty plain to see

The world is such a great and a funny place to be;

The gamblin' man is rich an' the workin' man is poor

And I ain't got no home in this world anymore.

"Coat of Many Colors"-Dolly Parton

Back through the years

I go wonderin once again

Back to the seasons of my youth

I recall a box of rags that someone gave us

And how my momma put the rags to use

There were rags of many colors

Every piece was small

And I didnt have a coat

And it was way down in the fall

Momma sewed the rags together

Sewin every piece with love

She made my coat of many colors

That I was so proud of

As she sewed, she told a story

From the bible, she had read

About a coat of many colors

Joseph wore and then she said

Perhaps this coat will bring you

Good luck and happiness

And I just couldnt wait to wear it

And momma blessed it with a kiss

Chorus:

My coat of many colors

That my momma made for me

Made only from rags

But I wore it so proudly

Although we had no money

I was rich as I could be

In my coat of many colors

My momma made for me

So with patches on my britches

Holes in both my shoes

In my coat of many colors

I hurried off to school

Just to find the others laughing

And making fun of me

In my coat of many colors

My momma made for me

And oh I couldnt understand it

For I felt I was rich

And I told them of the love

My momma sewed in every stitch

And I told em all the story

Momma told me while she sewed

And how my coat of many colors

Was worth more than all their clothes

But they didnt understand it

And I tried to make them see

That one is only poor

Only if they choose to be

Now I know we had no money

But I was rich as I could be

In my coat of many colors

My momma made for me

Made just for me

"Coal Miner's Daughter"-Loretta Lynn

Well, I was born a coal miner's daughter

In a cabin on a hill in Butcher Holler

We were poor but we had love

That's the one thing my Daddy made sure of

He shoveled coal to make a poor man's dollar

My daddy worked all night in the Van Lear coal mine

All day long in the field hoeing corn

Mama rocked the baby at night

Read the Bible by a coal oil light

And everything would start all over come break of morn

Daddy loved and raised eight kids on a coal miner's pay

Mama scrubbed our clothes on a washboard every day

I've seen her fingers bleed

To complain there was no need

She'd smile in Mama's understanding way

In the summertime we didn't have shoes to wear

But in the wintertime we'd all get a brand new pair

From a mail-order catalogue, money made by selling a hog

Daddy always seemed to get the money somewhere

I'm proud to be a coal miner's daughter

I remember well, the well where I drew water

The work we done was hard

At night we'd sleep, cause we were tired

I never thought I'd ever leave Butcher Holler

Well a lot of things have changed, since way back when

And it's so good to be back home again

Not much left but the floor

Nothing lives here anymore

Just a memory of a coal miner's daughter
