Mercurious One
I'll always remember taking the 33 Ashbury and that crazy ass turn the bus made from upper Market Street onto Clayton. Can you imagine what it was like to get to The Psychedelic Shop for a stranger who doesn't know the streets? Damn one-ways! Bleh!

Dzldoc
Sounds like your school at least had football players who knew how to have a little fun. Where I went to school if you were a jock you were not cool:-) needless to say I never attended the football games in high school, I was going to concerts and sneaking in the clubs in new Orleans. Most of the hippies I knew did bathe, some a little starnge, but such were the times:-) Pretty much the same for me lol except I didn't sneak into clubs I just walked in The following pretty much would describe how I feel about where I am today and where I live...... AMEN AND AMEN!!!!!! This Guy Had The Guts To Put This On The InternetAt least he had the guts to say what I think and put it on the internet YES, I'M A BAD AMERICANI Am the Liberal-Progressives Worst Nightmare. I am an American. I am a Master Mason and believe in God.. I ride Harley Davidson Motorcycles and believe in American products. I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some Liberal governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican! I'm in touch with my feelings and I like it that way! I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer, it makes you a smart American.. I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized, and does not entitle you to anything. Get over it! I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, do it in English. I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when and where they want to. My heroes are John Wayne, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, and Willie G. Davidson that makes the Awesome Harley Davidson Motorcycles.I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor. I know wrestling is fake and I don't waste my time watching or arguing about it. I've never owned a slave, or was a slave, I haven't burned any witches or been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you! So, shut up already. I believe if you don't like the way things are here, go back to where you came from and change your own country! This is AMERICA ...We like it the way it is! If you were born here and don't like it you are free to move to any Socialist country that will have you. I want to know which church is it exactly where the Reverend Jesse Jackson preaches, where he gets his money, and why he is always part of the problem and not the solution. Can I get an AMEN on that one? I also think the cops have the right to pull you over if you're breaking the law, regardless of what color you are. And, no, I don't mind having my face shown on my drivers license. I think it's good.... And I'm proud that 'God' is written on my money. I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don't want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years. I dislike those people standing in the intersections trying to sell me stuff or trying to guilt me into making 'donations' to their cause. Get a Job and do your part! I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents. I believe 'illegal' is illegal no matter what the lawyers think. I believe the American flag should be the only one allowed in AMERICA ! If this makes me a BAD American, then yes, I'm a BAD American..If you are a BAD American too, please forward this to everyone you know. We want our country back! We NEED GOD BACK IN OUR COUNTRY! Del Zeppnile
I remember being told we were hippies, druggies and the rock at that time was the devil's music. We wore our hair long, we were anti-government, we didn't dress proper...etc. I grew up to be a successful business person. I have been in the hotel business for almost 30 years. I have traveled many places. My son graduates next May with his masters in Architecture. So I did that right. I still love blue jeans and a tee shirt. Still believe in Peace and Love. I love anilmals and would never delibertly hurt another human being. I love God and my neighbors. In fact it was much of this music that shaped and molded me to what I am today. I am very involved in politics as I think we need to speak up when something is wrong. What about you?? I grew up in Los Angeles in the 60s and 70s, and the thing I remember most about hippies was that they smelled really, really bad. Not only did they smell bad, but they also looked really bad. Made you want to cross the street when you saw them coming. Plus since most of them were also a bunch of screaming anti-war types, you couldn't help but just root for Richard Nixon and co. I mean I pretty much decided to become a Republican, and a conservative, because of the "hippy movement." All I knew was that I didn't agree with those nutters. Plus, I really HATED the way they scoffed at our soldiers during the Vietnam war. Guys who were serving their country only to be spat upon by a bunch of dirty loser scumbags with nothing better to do than fornicate in their own filth. Besides, Charles Manson pretty much brought an end to the era of the hippies. After old Chuckie boy sliced up a few people, nobody really wanted long haired hippy types around anymore. If I am going to spend my hard earned money it will be on the best product.. Owning a gun I also believe does not make you a killer- but I do think you should be trained how to properly use it and there should be background checks. As far as being an AMERICAN, if you do not have Native American Indian blood...then YOU ARE NOT a true American and should go back to where you came from. If he loves the way things are he must be a politician!!! I also support policemen and believe if you are engaging in any criminal act they have the right to do their job. I am so sick of everytime a policeman shoots someone they are put on leave pending investigation. They are here to enforce the law. And yes, there are bad cops as there are a few bad in everything profession. But the majority are good and are definitely not paid enough! If he believes in God then he should want to help ALL people and not think that someone is poor because they don't work. A lot of people are poor because they have had medical emergencies or other reasons beyond their control even though they did the right things. I think most of American's are stuck on the the far right or the far left. As long as this exist we will never move forward as a country. I do love this country, but I also love good decent human beings no matter what country you come from!!

Hi Deborah, I'm not as hard core as this fellow but I thought he made a good point and as far as American products as guilty as anyone, both of my vehicles are jap cars. I had a Chevy p/u but sold it to get enough money to buy my home. I do have a small amount 1/8 native American on my mothers side although I never claim it. I can also fully understand the medical problems and am more than greatful that I have a good insurance plan. As far as firearms I've own them since I was 13 yo when my dad bought me my first shot gun for christmas and I have had back ground checks on all of my handguns as of late. I also agree with the traing part as a lot of people today are complete morons when it comes to common sense let alone owning a fire arm. Peace be with us all. I do love this country, but I also love good decent human beings no matter what country you come from!!

Jahfin
Only goes to show that if people wait and get to know someone before passing judgement...they are usually suprised:-) I have a friend that ran into the same sort of thing. He has long hair, a beard and loves wearing cowboy boots. His employer considered him a "maverick". At first they gave him hell for his appearance but he told them, "do you want someone in here who meets your expectations as far as appearance but doesn't get the job done or do you want someone like me who will go above and beyond the call of duty but who doesn't meet your expectations as far as appearance?" They went with him. He's since won all types of awards and continues to excel in his job performance.

Manson was a COMPLETE freak, but not all hippies were freaks, but we have a habit of labeling people, when there are good and bad in everything! I swear to you that in Los Angeles Manson ended the hippie culture in one fell swoop. Nobody thought of hippies the same way after the Tate-Labianca murders. But even before that people in California had pretty much had enough of these types. During the "summer of love" they came in thousands to San Francisco and Los Angeles. What started out as a big "love in" quickly ended up becoming just another excuse for drug abuse, prostitution and self destruction. I see NOTHING postive about the "hippie movement" because quite frankly it was a failure. If you can't take care of yourself, are basically unwilling or unable to take care of others; it ends up being a drain on the rest of society. 'Drop out' and 'turn on' should have been a warning of failure. I really don't understand the current mystiqe about hippies. The whole thing was a myth. Without hardwork and personal responsibility; society falls apart.

Hello Del, Everyone knows that Manson was a murderer, low life...and as in any group there are really stupid people...but there was also people who were standing up to our corrupt government. The killing of JFK, the Vietnam war. Do you really think a large percentage of the government then was not a set of greedy, self indulgent group of people. The drug of the fifties was alcohol and God knows that was abused..and still is..it just happens to be legal because government found a way to make money on it. Prostitution was around long before the hippies. In regards to hard work and responsibility... look at the world today. Most people have worked hard and AGAIN the government is still failing people.
