Mithril46
Damn. In NYC, I remember about 2-3 years ago some theater had a midnight showing. I don't speak for anyone else, but on the large screen, believe me , there are details and aspects of the movie you can't see even on a 60" home tv. In various spots Jimmy is playing so fast his hands are actually a blur. Long live Midnight Movies !! Viewers cheering as the symbols appear with each member's name. Those were the days!!. Yeah man, the cosmic energy was in those theaters ...the collective vibe and the big screen are the best. I must've seen it 15 times in Chicago from 79 to about 1985. Fond memories. Black_dog_boogie
I hate admitting this. I thought this movie sucked when I first heard it. Raunchy voice by Plant. Lack luster drumming by Bonzo, and Page looking tired. Though when I grew up I found myself really enjoying some of the tracks on this soundtrack. Rain Song was pure magic, Celebration Day rocked, Black Dog was stellar, and Since I've been loving you, is Epic. Wish they would do the 1975 concert in Seattle live. I have been told that show kicked ass.

I used to go see this at the midnight movie at the mall within bike riding distance all the time when I was a kid 35+ years ago. Fond memories. No Quota
It was a monthly event deciding what to go see between TSRTS movie or the original Heavy Metal movie at the midnight flicks.

badgeholder
Heavy Metal! Yeah, all those Ralph Bakshi movies, Fritz the Cat, and stuff, I'd always go to the triple-bill Hendrix night with Rainbow Bridge, Jimi Plays Berkeley and the WB documentary. Never cared for Rocky Horror much, but it fit right in with Flesh Gordon and flicks like that. The Rialto in South Pas was the place, Big comfy chairs in back, saw TSRTS a million times there.... Ah yes. Doing the time warp! Maybe we have a business model we can resurrect. Especially in Colorado and Cali now. Monday, Thursday and Saturdays, TSRTS. Tuesday and Friday Heavy Metal Wed, and Sunday TRHPS Taarna over Tim Curry every time though.

Goddamned Fritz the Cat. Believe it or not they had that and the sequel on Netflix for about six months. That is until someone realized it was a cartoon porno drug flick and they pulled both. The first one is a classic, the second one is a complete mess, a bad acid trip. Ah Fritz, we miss you. Ah, um, back to the topic.... We used to go to the Cini-Capri and Scottsdale Fashion Square back in the early and mid 80's and alternate between TSRTS, TRHPS, The Wall, and Heavy Metal. I had a friend who was the most homophobic person, a real characture in the flesh and had no clue what TRHPS was about, he thought it really was a horror movie. Imagine his surprise when we introduced him to it at the midnight movies. When we were standing in line for the tickets he was getting suspicious with all the punters in costume acting weird. However we assured him they were actually nutters who showed up to all the midnight movies. So, the movie begins and all is good until the scene where Tim Curry makes his appearance at which point all hell broke loose. He stands up, starts screaming at the movie every single gay slur you could imagine, starts spitting on the floor and runs out. Man was he pissed and man were we rolling on the ground...he was better than the show it was so damn hilarious. BTW, that homophobic friend, well, he came out of the closet almost thirty years, a wife, and four kids later.
Isaac McHelicopter
I went to the Keswick Alhambra screening on Friday. About 35 people there (34 more than I was expecting!) and a good mix of ages. Having lived with TSRTS at home for many years, graduating through pirate VHS, official VHS, DVD and Blu-ray, I thought it might be less than thrilling to watch it yet again. It was GREAT though. Big screen, good sound and a chance to watch the whole thing without the inevitable family interruptions. Catch it if you can.
SuperDave
First time I saw this film was back in around 1981-82. It was a friend from high school. The funny thing he was an accomplished violinist from Russia. He loved classical music and I got him into Led Zeppelin. It wasn't difficult as he found the music so diverse and amazing musicianship among all. He liked the Beatles but felt Zeppelin was better with the production from Page and so much going on with each song. All the various guitar parts in many tracks and so much layering overall. He loved this band and glad I could get him into such a great one and he appreciated it. He wound up going to the Julliard School in NYC for further musical education after high school and one of the best in the USA. Unfortunately, we lost track after our high school days as I miss him. I know he's done well as he had a write up in the NY Times about him about 20 years ago and he mentioned about mixing classical with Zeppelin for his delve into music. We went to see "The Song Remains The Same" back in high school and enjoyed it so much. It was a midnight showing and it wasn't easy getting my mom's approval to see this so late. It was the first time I had seen live footage of Zeppelin. Although, I was very into them for about a year or more already and had some bootlegs at the time. I couldn't wait for this night and the movie didn't disappoint. Live performance is great but never been that fond of the fantasy sequences. But, know I know why they did those with the problem with the filmed footage of MSG that got destroyed or unusable. R Amblinman
I remember the late 70s when I was a teenager, The Song would occasionally be shown in a local(ish) cinema, normally just for one night a couple of times a year. A bunch of us would jump on the train like it was some kind of pilgrimage to some cinema somewhere. I'd seen the film six times by the end of 1979. They were good times...I've had the DVD for years and have now upgraded to the two disc version.

Can't believe that my parents wouldn't let their pre-teen innocent daughter go to Houston and see them! Hahahahaha! I recently upgraded from the 2-disk DVD to the Blu-Ray. It's INCREDIBLE (imo)...beautiful color and sound. Definitely worth the $$$.

dandak
LOVED the music from this movie. LOVED IT. Bought it on vinyl when it came out. Went to see the movie in Youngstown Ohio the first night it showed taking several of my zep buddies with me. Major disappointment. The music was great, the concert footage was great, but those fantasy sequences????? What????? They dragged on and on. Im not into, and never have been into, that 'woo-woo" stuff (for lack of a better word). Recently watched the movie again to see if I have changed. Nope... But I still crank the album!
