SteveAJones
Led Zeppelin Manager Peter Grant Aboard the Brighton Belle April 30, 1972 Courtesy of my friend Horselunges comes this fantastic new find: 1972 newsreel depicting the final run of the Brighton Belle all-Pullman electric service which commenced services from London to Brighton (using the same stock depicted here - SR Class 5BEL/BR Class 403) in 1933. The passenger shown at 1:26 is none other than Led Zeppelin Manager Peter Grant! OUTSTANDING!
slagfarmer
I was wondering, while on another forum I saw that in July 1979 - Led Zeppelin film their rehearsal at Bray Studios. Is there any footage of this available or is it in the "vault"? I have used the "search" option without much luck.
SteveAJones
I was wondering, while on another forum I saw that in July 1979 - Led Zeppelin film their rehearsal at Bray Studios. Is there any footage of this available or is it in the "vault"? I have used the "search" option without much luck. Perhaps there is some confusion. Bray Studios was often used for film productions (Hammer produced several horror films there for example) but so far as I know the Led Zeppelin rehearsals were not filmed. Cecil.
Can you be more specific as to what your seeking? Produced by whom for what? They were among the biggest groups in the world by 1977 and as such the need to produce promotional materials for a North American tour was minimal.I read sometime ago, that after rehearsals in London there was a group picture taken before they embarked on the North American tour. The only Picture I could think of would be the one used by People magazine?. Source. This was something from the early days of the internet and the gist of the article was about Led Zeppelin returning to Touring.

The date of the People magazine issue with them on the cover in a posed portrait shot is Dec 20th 1976. IMHO, it's more plausible it was taken as rehearsals began in late November or prior to the Christmas break they took from rehearsing as opposed to after they concluded in January '77, given the date of publication. It does seem to be the one your thinking of.
Administrators sam_webmaster Posted July 4, 2009 Administrators Share Posted July 4, 2009 The photo session for People magazine (and used for a few others, like Grooves) was done in NY while they were there promoting The Song Remains the Same, late Oct. I believe the rehearsal photo you highlighted is from Manticore Studios (Jan '77). Here's to you:
dazedjeffy
Many thanks for the clarification, Sam; I've updated my files. I believe the rehearsal photo you highlighted is from Manticore Studios (Jan '77). Here's to you: Problem with dating that file as Manticore Jan. 1977 is that here's a pic in NYC at Cinema One on Oct. 20, 1976 with a bearded JPJ. And here's another pic (supposedly at Manticore in Jan. 1977) Again, bearded JPJ. The original pic in question had JPJ cleanshaven. Any thoughts? Administrators sam_webmaster Posted July 5, 2009 Administrators Share Posted July 5, 2009 Both rehearsal shots are from Manticore studios in the UK, same photographer, different days. Near the end of rehearsals, JPJ shaved. An example of the session where they "posed" at Manticore is the above b&w pic. There's an article I have about TSRTS NY premiere which specificially mentions the photographer from People magazine being there at the Plaza Hotel and the difficulty in getting the band to "sit still together for the group shot". (paraphrasing the quote as I don't have it in front of me).
Otto Masson
Thanks for that, Sam. I actually didn't notice about Jonesy's beard when we had that thread for MANTICORE PICS !

Administrators sam_webmaster Posted July 11, 2009 Administrators Share Posted July 11, 2009 The '77 programme only used live pics from the first date(s) of the tour. fsmith9095
Steve, Would you be able to shed any light on the following phots from VH-1? I'm assuming they are from video but can not place them. Could the first 3 be from the backstage with The Who snippet that was on Assemblage or Film Noir? http://picasaweb.google.com/CaptCrunge/STI...202494567144066 http://picasaweb.google.com/CaptCrunge/STI...202498254396674 http://picasaweb.google.com/CaptCrunge/STI...202503189304210 http://picasaweb.google.com/CaptCrunge/STI...202499632269538 I couldn't begin to imagine where this last one could be from. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Frank

There is so much yet to discover-or so I hope. It's a continual odyssey in the world of Led Zeppelin. Those screen caps you mention: very interesting. I believe Sam addressed these earlier in this same thread. Great stuff. And I should say that a fellow fan from FBO correctly pointed out that the 4th photo is from a very well known photos session in 1969. If you recall, there are the 4 members of the band sitting around a kitchen table with a box of Rinso detergent in the foreground. So maybe it's nt from video afterall-but anything is possible. That's right, Frank. It seems to be an outtake photo from that session. My copy of Assemblage is not within arm's reach so I'm unable to compare and contrast the other three against it. I'm in the same boat-not within arm's reach of Assemblage to compare photos, unfortunately. The backstage with the Who video would be my guess as the source of the first 3 photos. But it's intriguing to imagine where they're from if not identified as from that source.
cookieshoes
The backstage video clips from the VH1 special are indeed from the '69 Who/Zep show. It's from the commonly circulating footage. The very end of that bit of footage features a half-second blurry shot of Plant onstage. So, possibly more exists from the gig.
c4plant
I am hoping that Steve or someone else here can please clarify where this pic was taken and when...there is a difference of opinion on the photo due to Robert's attire. Have exhausted myself trying to find the exact showl(?...'77) Thank you for anyone 's help with this!!
