lucyinthesky
Hi there! Yesterday I discovered the lyrics of "1983 8A Merman I Shall Turn To Be) by Jimi Hendrix and - besides of the great music - this poem really blew my mind. I was just sitting in front of my computer ind tried not to cry. This song text is so colourful, so meek, so poetic... No, I'm NOT stoned even if I may sound like this... Here it is: Jimi Hendrix: 1983 (a merman I shall turn to be) Hurray i awake from yesterday Alive but the war is here to stay So my love catherina and me Decide to take our last walk thru the noise to the sea Not to die but to be reborn Away from the lands so battred and torn Forever forever Oh say can you see it's really such a mess Every inch of earth is a fighting nest Giant pencil and lipstick-tube shaped things Continue to rain and cause screamin' pain And the arctic stains from silver blue to bloody red As our feet find the sand And the sea is straight ahad Straight up ahead Well it's too bad that our friends can't be with us today Well it's too bad The machine that we built Would never save us that's what they say That's why they ain't comin' with us today And they also said it's impossible For a man to live and breathe undrerwater Forever was a main complaint Yeah and they also threw this in my face they said Anyway you know good and well It would be beyond the will of god And the grace of the king Grace of the king Yeah Ooo So my darling and i make love in the sand To salute the last moment ever on dry land Our machine it has done its work played its part well Without a scratch on our body when we bid it farewell Starfish and giant foams greet us with a smile Before our heads go under we take our last look at the killing noise Of the out of style The out of style out of style oh yeah Oooo So down and down and down and down we go Hurry my darlin' we mustn't be late For the show Neptune champion games to an aqua world is so my dear Right this way smiles a mermaid I can hear atlantis full of cheer Atlantis full of cheer I can hear atlantis full of cheer Oh yeah Now I want to know if any of you had a similar experience. Post all the beautiful and moving lyrics and your stories if you want to share them.
Jahfin
I can't think of any lyrics that ever "changed my life" but there are some that have had a profound effect on me. Back in the 80s, this one meant a whole lot and even though I'm considerably older now, it still does: We are young despite the years we are concern We are hope despite the times from the song These Days from the R.E.M. album Lifes Rich Pageant

Gainsbarre
When I was younger, I was madly in love with a girl who dumped me, and for a week I'd been in such misery, and oddly enough, what got me out of it was Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive'...I went for a walk one bleak afternoon and I kept getting that lyric "I'm not that chained-up little person still in love with you" going round and round in my head. I really really loved that girl, and I held her 17th birthday party at my house, while my folks were gone, and it was a huuuge party, about 100 people were there, and it was crazy, then at 5am, while I was on my hands and knees scrubbing the floor to get the beer and scuff marks off the tiles, all of the sudden, from out of nowhere, John Lennon's "Girl" popped into my head, and those lyrics again just kept going round and round "She's the kind of girl you want so much it makes you sorry.." and "she promises the earth to me and I believe her, after all this time I don't know why..." ha, and that was the end of that! Evster2012
Terrapin Station by Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia as recorded by the Grateful Dead Let my inspiration flow in token rhyme, suggesting rhythm, That will not forsake you, till my tale is told and done. While the firelights aglow, strange shadows from the flames will grow, Till things weve never seen will seem familiar. Shadows of a sailor, forming winds both foul and fair all swarm. Down in carlisle, he loved a lady many years ago. Here beside him stands a man, a soldier from the looks of him, Who came through many fights, but lost at love. While the story teller speaks, a door within the fire creaks; Suddenly flies open, and a girl is standing there. Eyes alight, with glowing hair, all that fancy paints as fair, She takes her fan and throws it, in the lions den. Which of you to gain me, tell, will risk uncertain pains of hell? I will not forgive you if you will not take the chance. The sailor gave at least a try, the soldier being much too wise, Strategy was his strength, and not disaster. The sailor, coming out again, the lady fairly leapt at him. Thats how it stands today. you decide if he was wise. The story teller makes no choice. soon you will not hear his voice. His job is to shed light, and not to master. Since the end is never told, we pay the teller off in gold, In hopes he will return, but he cannot be bought or sold. Inspiration, move me brightly. light the song with sense and color; Hold away despair, more than this I will not ask. Faced with mysteries dark and vast, statements just seem vain at last. Some rise, some fall, some climb, to get to terrapin. Counting stars by candlelight, all are dim but one is bright; The spiral light of venus, rising first and shining best, On, from the northwest corner, of a brand new crescent moon, While crickets and cicadas sing, a rare and different tune, Terrapin station. In the shadow of the moon, terrapin station. And I know well get there soon, terrapin station. I cant figure out, terrapin, if its the end or beginning, terrapin, But the trains put its brakes on, terrapin, And the whistle is screaming, terrapin. Terrapin station - at the siding While you were gone, these faces filled with darkness. The obvious was hidden. with nothing to believe in, Sullen wings of fortune beat like rain. Youre back in terrapin for good or ill again, for good or ill again.
Jarlaxle 56
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun. Shine on you crazy diamond. Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky. Shine on you crazy diamond. You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze. Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine! You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon. Shine on you crazy diamond. Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light. Shine on you crazy diamond. Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze. Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
Bitchin Soul
One of the lyrics is a LZ tune that has always ran through my mind is "Standing on a hill in a mountain of dreams telling myself its not as hard hard hard as it seems" I think those are the words they may not be exact but since the 70's not a day goes by where that phrase does not enter my mind. Jahfin
These lyrics didn't change my life but they are certainly food for thought. This song tells the true story of the late Gregory Dean Smalley who died from AIDs several years ago but continued to play live shows right up until the very end. The Living Bubba I wake up tired and I wake up pissed wonder how I ended up like this I wonder why things happen like they do but I don't wonder long cuz I got a show to do I'm sick at my stomach from the A.Z.T. Broke at my bank cuz that shit ain't free but I'm here to stay (at least another week or two) I can't die now cuz I got another show to do Don't give me no pity don't give me no grief Wait 'til I die for sympathy Just help me with this amp and a guitar or two I can't die now cuz I got another show to do Don't give me no preachin' no self servin' I ain't no angel but nobody's deserving I can dance on my own grave, thank you! but I can't die now cuz I got another show... Some people keep saying I can't last long but I got my bands I got my songs, liquor, beer, and nicotine to help me along and I'm drunk and stubborn as they come chain smoking, guitar picking, 'til I'm gone I ain't got no political agenda Ain't got no message for the youth of America 'cept "Wear a rubber and be careful who you screw" and come see me next Friday cuz I got another show... Some people stop living long before they die Work a dead end job just to scrape on by but I keep living just to bend that note in two and I can't die now cuz I got another show... lyrics by Patterson Hood music by Drive-by Truckers (Cooley, Hood, Howell, Lane, Neff) ©1998 Soul Dump Music Edited June 9, 2008 by Jahfin
led_zep_girl_92
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day Fritter and waste the hours in and off-hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown Waitng for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it´s sinking And racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative, but you´re older Shorter of breath, one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to nought, or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way The time is gone, the song is over, thougt I´d something more to say. zero
"when sadness fills my days it's time to turn away, and let tomorrow's dreams become reality to me" from tomorrow's dream by black sabbath not life changing for me . it's more so the equivalent for me of a christian putting all these daily bible verse stickys all over their house to remind them of.. of ? of something and to ward off those evil spirits. ~tangerine~
Song lyrics can be inspirational. Life changing, nah. My best friend and i sang some of these lyrics to the guy at the record store because we didn't know the name of the song. He told us right away and they had a copy of the album (which i still have many years later). The middle of the song is the part i find so touching... Question...The Moody Blues Why do we never get an answer When we're knocking at the door With a thousand million questions About hate and death and war? 'Cos when we stop and look around us, There is nothing that we need, In a world of persecution That is burning in its greed. Why do we never get an answer When we're knocking at the door Because the truth is hard to swallow That's what the war of love is for It's not the way that you say it When you do those things to me It's more the way that you mean it When you tell me what will be And when you stop and think about it You won't believe it's true That all the love you've been giving Has all been meant for you. I'm looking for someone to change my life, I'm looking for a miracle in my life And if you could see what it's done to me, To lose the love I knew Could safely lead me through. Between the silence of the mountains, And the crashing of the sea, There lies a land I once lived in, And she's waiting there for me, But in the grey of the morning, My mind becomes confused, Between the dead and the sleeping, And the road that I must choose. I'm looking for someone to change my life, I'm looking for a miracle in my life And if you could see what it's done to me, To lose the love I knew, Could safely lead me to The land that I once knew, To learn as we grow old The secrets of our soul. It's not the way that you say it When you do those things to me It's more the way you really mean it When you tell me what will be Why do we never get an answer When we're knocking at the door With a thousand million questions About hate and death and war? 'Cos when we stop and look around us, There is nothing that we need, In a world of persecution That is burning in its greed.
Nathan
Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd Mama told me when I was young Come sit beside me, my only son And listen closely to what I say. And if you do this It will help you some sunny day. Take your time... dont live too fast, Troubles will come and they will pass. Go find a woman and youll find love, And dont forget son, There is someone up above. (chorus) And be a simple kind of man. Be something you love and understand. Be a simple kind of man. Wont you do this for me son, If you can? Forget your lust for the rich mans gold All that you need is in your soul, And you can do this if you try. All that I want for you my son, Is to be satisfied. (chorus) Boy, dont you worry... youll find yourself. Follow you heart and nothing else. And you can do this if you try. All I want for you my son, Is to be satisfied. (chorus) It says to be true to yourself and who you are. I was having a horrible time in my life when one day, this song came on the radio. To be honest, my life hasn't completely changed form that horrible time (I'm still broke, still jobless, and not quite made my dreams, yet), but my whole outlook changed. Now, instead of dwelling on the problems, I move to fix them and focus on the good things... and it's thanks to this song.
Dzldoc
Within a little while from now If I'm not feeling any less sour I promise myself to treat myself And visit a nearby tower And climbing to the top will throw myself off In an effort to make it clear to who Ever what it's like when you're shattered Left standing in the lurch by the church Where people saying: "My God, that's tough She's tored him up" No point in us remaining You may as well go home Cause I did on my own Alone again, naturaly To think that only yesterday I was cheerful, bright and gay Looking forward to wouldn't do The role I was about to play But as if to knock me down Reality came around And without so much, as a mere touch Cut me into little peaces Leaving me to doubt About God and His mercy Or if He really does exist Why did He desert me And in my hour of need I truly am indeed Alone again, naturally It seems to me that there are more hearts broken in the world that cant't be mended Left unattended What do we do? What do we do? Alone again, naturally And looking back over the years When everyone stands and fears I remember I cried when my father died Never wishing to dry the tears And at sixty-five years old My mother, God rest her soul, Couldn't understand why the only man She had ever loved had been taken Leaving her to stop with the a heart so badly broken Despite encouragement from me No words were ever spoken And when she passed away I cried and cried all day Alone again, naturally Alone again, naturally

wanna be drummer
None really, but there have been some that sort of made me think a lot ya know? "Even if I say It'll be alright Still I hear you say You want to end your life Now and again we try To just stay alive Maybe we'll turn it all around 'Cause it's not too late It's never too late" Three Days Grace "Never Too Late" "And I’m laying out my winter clothes, and wishing I was gone, goin’ home Where the new york city winters aren’t bleedin’ me, leadin’ me goin' home. In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by his trade, And he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down, Or cut him 'til he cried out in his anger and his shame, "I am leaving, I am leaving." But the fighter still remains, still remains." Simon and Garfunkel "The Boxer" "Mama told me when I was young Come sit beside me, my only son And listen closely to what I say. And if you do this It will help you some sunny day. Take your time... dont live too fast, Troubles will come and they will pass. Go find a woman and youll find love, And dont forget son, There is someone up above. And be a simple kind of man. Be something you love and understand. Be a simple kind of man. Mrs. Plant
And now, the end is here And so I face the final curtain My friend, I'll say it clear I'll state my case, of which I'm certain I've lived a life that's full I traveled each and ev'ry highway And more, much more than this, I did it my way Regrets, I've had a few But then again, too few to mention I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway And more, much more than this, I did it my way Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew When I bit off more than I could chew But through it all, when there was doubt I ate it up and spit it out I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way I've loved, I've laughed and cried I've had my fill, my share of losing And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing To think I did all that And may I say, not in a shy way, "Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way" For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels The record shows I took the blows and did it my way! My Grandpa had this song on repeat the days before his death. Then it was sung by a friend of his at his funeral. I can't even listen to the song anymore it got to me so bad.
