THE OSMONDS THREAD

How's it going fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? I am going to go out on a limb here and talk about a band that deserves to be mentioned among Rock's elite bands. You're probably asking yourself "why THE OSMONDS?" After discussing this band on a different thread with other fellow ZEPPELIN fanatics, I felt and decided that I would write a thread about them. Before you laugh me off the forum, please let me state my case. THE OSMONDS are a family band that needs no introduction. THE OSMONDS have managed to sell over 90 million albums worldwide and still counting and are still not in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame yet where they so rightly deserve to be. THE OSMONDS are a family band that never received their due recognition that they truly deserved. Donny Osmond has been officially voted as one of the all-time greatest Teen Idols ever. THE OSMONDS are the ONLY band (Besides Michael Jackson) that had loud screams at their early 1970's concerts that are about as close to Beatlemania as you're ever going to get. Beatlemania would later be called Osmondmania. I KNOW, I WITNESSED IT! The Donny & Marie show lasted four years and is considered to be one of the most highly successful TV shows in the 1970's. THE OSMONDS had a successful comeback this year (2008) at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas as well as in England. Every Osmond member including Donny can play every instrument (Guitar, Bass, Drums and Organ) consistantly well. THE OSMONDS are also known for their beautiful harmonizing which ranks them as one of the greatest harmonizing bands of all-time. With that in mind, THE OSMONDS are also known for playing Bubble Gum Music, Pop Music, Hard Rock Music, Soul Music, Disco Music and Country Music. How many bands can you say did all of that? For those of you who thought or believed that THE OSMONDS could not Rock n' Roll, I dare and challenge all of you to buy the PHASE III (1971), CRAZY HORSES (1972), THE PLAN (1973) and BRAINSTORM (1976) albums. Doing this, their Hard Rock Music will change your mind real quickly. When you hear Hard Rock songs such as "My Drum," "Don't Panic," "Hold Her Tight." "Crazy Horses," "We All Fall Down," "War In Heaven/Traffic In My Mind" and "Gotta Get Love," you will quickly realize that THE OSMONDS not only knew how to Rock n' Roll, they kicked ass when they Rocked. You're probably asking yourself, "how did THE OSMONDS get forgotten or lost in Rock n' Roll history?" Simple, the band unselfishly took a back seat and focused primarily as engineers, arrangers and producers on The Donny & Marie show with people thus forgetting all of the band's accomplishments and achievements as crucial years went by resulting in damaging the band's reputation as a Hard Rock band. Despite THE OSMONDS recording Hard Rock music against their father's wishes as well as their religious beliefs, the band did want to continue in pursuing in the direction of recording Hard Rock Music. Why, because the band had a goal in wanting to be the next LED ZEPPELIN. Believe it or not ZEPPELIN fanatics, THE OSMONDS were one of LED ZEPPELIN'S biggest fans. THE OSMONDS always believed that LED ZEPPELIN was the band to beat and top in the 1970's. Who would have ever believed that a family band like THE OSMONDS, of Mormon faith, could record and play Hard Rock music the way they did? It is just too bad that THE OSMONDS never received the recognition that they truly deserved. THE OSMONDS is a family band that were (And still is) loaded with limitless talent. I would also like to mention that I have always been in love with Marie Osmond and I always will. Now I ask all of you, my fellow ZEPPELIN fanatics your opinions and views on this legendary band. I welcome and value your comments whether they are positive or negative. Please enlighten me, ROCK ON!

I remember one time Donny was being interviewed and he said that their music (Osmond Bros) rocked as hard as Led Zeppelin. I just about puked.

How's it going "EtherealAirship" It sounds hard to believe huh? You have to listen to their music to believe it. I encourage you to listen to the songs and albums I mentioned in THE OSMONDS' thread, then you can be the judge for yourself. The truth is in their music. ROCK ON!

I like Crazy Horses :bagoverhead:

How's it going "MissHoneydripper?" How's the weather up in East Yorkshire, England? THE OSMONDS were very popular in England weren't they? "Crazy Horses" does kick ass doesn't it? Nobody would have ever believed that THE OSMONDS could Rock like that huh? Have you ever heard "My Drum," "Hold Her Tight," "Traffic In my mind," "The Last Days" or "Gotta Get Love?" If you thought "Crazy Horses" rocked, wait till you hear these five songs. ROCK ON!

Well I thought they were chessy and bland. But then a few years ago when Donny and Marie had a talk show they had Stevie Wonder (one of my all time fave singers along with Ray Charles and Aretha) on the show, and he did a duet with Donny. Donny held his own, people! I was like, :o !!! That guy can sing. Check out the Disney movie, "Mulan." He sings a song in there called "Be a Man" and it kicks ass, IMO :bagoverhead:

Sorry, mine's even worse than that ^

Love Me For A Reason, anyone? :bagoverhead: :bagoverhead: :bagoverhead:

How's it going "Lilith" from England? How's it up there in England? I was telling another one of your fellow Countrywomen named "MissHoneydripper" that THE OSMONDS were very big and popular in England weren't they? Do you agree with me that the screams at their early 1970's concerts were about as close to Beatlemania as you're ever going to get? I saw tHE OSMONDS live in 1971 during the height of their popularity and I lost a lot of my hearing that night. I also met and kissed about 20 girls that night. "Lilith," the song "Love Me For A Reason" is a beautiful soulful sounding song that would become one of the band's greatest hits ever. I love all of THE OSMONDS' music. I truly feel that it is our responsibility to let the music fans as well as our fellow ZEPPELIN fanatics, know who THE OSMONDS really are. ROCK ON!

How's it going "Suz?" I love your picture of the cat saying "meow!" Donny Osmond truly kicked ass didn't he. Donny Osmond was officially voted in the Top Ten all-time greatest Teen Idols EVER! When you consider the company that he is in and I'm talking about performers such as Frank Sinatra (The first true Teen Idol), Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy, Leif Garrett, Andy Gibb and Michael Jackson to name a few, that's pretty damn good. ROCK ON!

I used to watch the Osmonds show, but I can't remember whether I had an album or not. I definitely had the Jackson 5, the Partridge Family, the Bay City Rollers and Shaun Cassidy :bagoverhead: And maybe Leif Garrett...

Yeah I liked 'em - and kind of still do. Donny is a great musical theatre actor these days and Jimmy seems a sweetheart. And yeah Jay ALWAYS used to mention being a Zeppelin fan in their interviews.

How's it going "Virginia?" You have to own an OSMONDS album if you had all of the artists that you mentioned in your comment. Do you remember when THE OSMONDS recorded any Hard Rock music in an effort to sound like LED ZEPPELIN? ROCK ON!

What's up "Knebby?" I remember you because of your skeleton picture flipping all of us off. And yeah, what else? (Ha Ha!) What Hard Rock songs have you heard by THE OSMONDS? You seem to know a lot about THE OSMONDS "Knebby." ROCK ON!

Oh and I'm not flipping everyone off. Its specific. :)

Oh and Rock On yourself! :)

Oh "Knebby," you need to hear their Hard Rock music man. Thats why I did this thread. THE OSMONDS could really kick ass. It is just too bad that all of us (Including myself) have forgotten about all of the band's past accomplishments and achievements. Its about time that THE OSMONDS receive their due and recognition that they truly deserve. ROCK ON my friend!

I confess to being in the "puke" faction myself in the 70s, and the "avoid" faction ever since. However, recently I've seen Donny on TV quite often doing interviews and comedy bits, etc., and he seems a really genuine guy, with a self-deprecating sense of humor. I haven't heard any of their music I can stand, apart from Crazy Horses, but then I haven't heard much of their music, period.

How's it going "Aquamarine" and pleased to meet you. I have seen your comments on other posts and I'm glad to finally converse with you on the ZEPPELIN Forum. You're not alone when you say that you haven't heard much of THE OSMONDS' music. Thats the reason why I did this thread, because either a lot of people are not familiar with their music or they have forgotten about their music. In reality, THE OSMONDS were a band that musically did it all. In my opinion, I truly believe that the band got a bad rap due to their Mormon faith as it played one of the vital roles and/or had a lot to do with why they got lost in Rock n' Roll history other than taking a back seat to the Donny & Marie Show as engineers, arrangers and producers. Doing that, the band was long forgotten. I would like to encourage you "Aquamarine" to check out some of the songs and albums that I mentioned in my opening thread. I really truly believe that it will surprise and blow you away. ROCK ON!

I'm glad some folks like -the osmonds, but its extremely depressing to think i was sitting home as a child watching the osmonds f-ing music variety show as a kid, while -led zeppelin shows were being played in the 70s.

How's it going "middlezep?" I KNOW HOW YOU TRULY FEEL! When THE OSMONDS concentrated on the Donny & Marie Show, the band suffered resulting in losing their worldwide popularity with fatal consequences. When the band became engineers, arrangers and producers for the Donny & Marie show, all of their achievements and accomplishments went out the door and became forgotten. But that was the band's fault since they willingly made that sacrifice without realizing the consequences. It wouldn't seem fair for a band like THE OSMONDS to be doing a variety show on TV while LED ZEPPELIN, THE BIGGEST AND GREATEST LIVE ACT ON EARTH WERE NOT wouldn't it? Believe me when I tell you that THE OSMONDS, in worldwide popularity in the early 1970's, were the closest thing next to LED ZEPPELIN. And because of that, that is why THE OSMONDS, mainly Donny & Marie, got their own show on TV in the mid 1970's. I know that sounds hard to believe but its true. Why LED ZEPPELIN never had their own TV show or more exposure is beyond me. ROCK ON!

I just googled Osmonds discography to see if it would help me remember. The 1970 "Osmonds" album is a possibility because I do remember One Bad Apple and Sweet and Innocent. If it also had Puppy Love, we may have a winner. But I was only 5 in 1970, so I truly don't remember for sure. :(

Never was into the Osmonds, but I did watch the Donny & Marie Show in the 70s. I even had a "Donny & Marie" microphone that when you tuned into a certain AM radio frequency, your voice would come out over the speakers.

Now I did like the Partridge Family- especially David Cassidy! I was very disappointed to find out that they only sang on their albums & the instruments were played by session musicians instead of them like they did on the show. And their psychedelic bus was so cool!

I don't think the problem was that they were Mormons so much as that they seemed a plastic, packaged Vegas-type act. With large teeth. And then Little Jimmy and that Long-Haired Lover song didn't help. But I freely admit that I therefore didn't listen to their music, so if I come across any of the albums you mentioned, I'll certainly check them out.

I don't think I'd have wanted Zeppelin to have their own variety show on TV. In fact I know I wouldn't! :D

Oh, and I'd forgotten Puppy Love. The stuff I missed out on WAS better than that, right??!
