Ant McBane
Ah, a fellow resident from Perth! Hello there! Yeah the weather hasn't been overly pleasant over here lately, i'm not a big one for humidity... You should look to the internet if you're in search of bootlegs, some other really good ones to consider are ones such as Seattle and Vancouver '75 and anything from late March in 1973 My Top 5 would be: Orlanda 31/8/1971 Osaka 29/9/1971 Anything from 1969, those Filmore shows are incredible. MSG 19/9/1970 BOTH SHOWS! Vancouver 19/3/1975 Plant is in a rather funny mood.

chef free
Only five bootlegs? Well assuming BBC ('69 and '71), HTWWW ('71) and TSRTS ('73) are available down under, I'd choose: April 27, 1969, SF (or Aug. 31, 1969, TX) Sept 4, 1970, LA (or Sept 19, 1970, NY) March 19, 1975 Vancouver (or Feb. 12, 1975, NY) June 23, 1977 LA (or June 21, 1977 LA) June 30, 1980 Frankfort Just to get a cross section of the years, however both Southampton and Vienna '73 are classic. Edited to note that this is post 333! Hey Evester where are ya? Edited October 29, 2008 by chef free

Seriously, I almost picked St. Louis '75 for it's great sound and I would have picked Knebworth 8/4, but I only have it on dvd and I was doing audio only. If I threw dvds in the mix, then Earl's Court 5/25/75 would have been in my top 5 too.

I agree, BBC ('69 and '71), HTWWW ('71) and TSRTS ('73) are top notch, but they are official releases, but I was thinking along the lines of audience / soundboard boot's. Any donations to my poor boot collection would be graciously received if you want to help!! Have a great weekend everyone out there...and best regards from all Zep Heads Down Under. fredb
Here's my 2 tied favorites , curious of the feedback... June 30 1980 Frankfurt ( sbd ) Victoria Theater 1979 ( 2nd night ) and from there it's a little from all the other years but usually only soundboards excluding the Victoria show as it's outstanding quality-wise. NickZepp
The O2 show would be up there in the top 10 at least. Maybe in the discussion for the top 5.
Dazed And Confused
+1 for Texas Pop Festival '69 Quality is amazing. Plus, I live close to Lewisville where it was held, and used to hear some of the old timers talk about how great Zeppelin was at that show. I listen to it all the time. Their energy absolutely jumps out of the speakers!
Melcórë
Wow. Top five bootlegs? That's really difficult...I'll have to put them in chronological order, I guess, I can't actually weigh them against each other with much gusto... Well, here's my list: 31/08/1969 - Don't Mess With Texas [Oh Boy] or Texas Pop [GM] 04/09/1970 - Live On Blueberry Hill [TMQ, Alt. Source] 23/03/1975 - Deep Throat, Volume I [EVSD] 23/06/1977 - Sgt. Page's Badgeholders' Club Band [Tarantura] 23-24/07/1979 - Copenhagen Warm-Ups: The Complete Double Nights [EVSD] Wow, I won't lie, that was difficult to come up with. I'll just say this: These shows are far from being my absolute favourites, I have many others; they may also not represent the very best of Led Zeppelin, yet I'd say that these are the bootlegs that have impacted me (positively) most. Now, for a bit of explanation behind my choices: The set Zeppelin played at the Texas Pop Festival? A no-brainer, hopefully for most people. The trouble, for me, came with deciding which boot to give credit to. In the end, I couldn't, so, it's a tie between the Oh Boy release and the Genuine Masters release. I downloaded the Empress Valley box-set of Blueberry Hill quite a while ago. Of all the versions included in that box-set, the version that has sounded best to me has long been the Trade Mark of Quality, alternate source bootleg. I tend to disagree with many people about Zeppelin as a live-act during 1975. As it stands, it's probably my favourite year for live Zeppelin. This show, though an audience recording, is another no-brainer, in my opinion. I'd suggest watching the matching videos included on the official site, too, they only enhance enjoyment of this boot! To put it as simply as possible: There is no show during 1977, none at all, that surpasses the Tarantura Sgt. Page's Badgeholders' Club Band release for me. I've been in love with the way the songs are played during that set for a few years... My last choice might seem a surprise to some. If there's one year during which Zeppelin comes under a copious amount of hate, it's 1979. I love the Knebworth shows, but, that's not the point, here...when I downloaded these warm-up shows, performed in Denmark nearly a month before Knebworth, well, I wasn't expecting much. That old bias seemed to be working in me. Listening to them, however? Wow - that's all I can say! Totally blown away by the quality of these performances, happily enough. I personally feel the 23rd July set was performed a bit better than the next day's, although that featured a bit of a different tracklist. SuperDave
Not in any particular order: L.A. Forum-9/4/70 (Blueberry Hill) L.A. Forum-6/23/77 (Sgt. Page) L.A. Forum-6/21/77 (Listen To This Eddie) Fillmore West-4/27/69 (just called Recorded Live at Fillmore West) Berkeley Community Theatre-9/14/71 (Going To California) Five was tough. Not definite though. A top ten would be much easier.

I have boots of other bands, and yeah, listing 5 can change day to day depending on mood. Thanks for keeping the string alive though.
