Little 'Adolf Hitler' Denied Birthday Cake at New Jersey Grocery Store

Wednesday, December 17, 2008

EASTON, Pa. — The father of 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell, denied a birthday cake with the child's full name on it by one New Jersey supermarket, is asking for a little tolerance.

Heath Campbell and his wife, Deborah, are upset not only with the decision made by the nearby ShopRite, but also with an outpouring of angry Internet postings in response to a local newspaper article about the cake.

Heath Campbell, who is 35, said in an interview Tuesday that people should look forward, not back, and accept change.

"They need to accept a name. A name's a name. The kid isn't going to grow up and do what [Hitler] did," he said.

After ShopRite refused the request for the cake as inappropriate, the Campbells got a cake decorated at a Wal-Mart in Pennsylvania, Deborah Campbell said.

About 12 people attended the birthday party on Sunday, according to Heath Campbell.

The Campbells' other two children also have unusual names: JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell turns 2 in a few months and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell will be 1 in April.

Heath Campbell said he named his son after Adolf Hitler because he liked the name and because "no one else in the world would have that name."

Campbell said his ancestors are German and that he has lived all his life in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, which is across the Delaware River from Easton.

There aren't really words to describe this guy, but I'm sure we're all having similar ideas. The thing that I don't get, though, is why this guy is such a coward. It's pretty obvious the guy's a neo-Nazi, so why not just say so? If that's the way he thinks the world should be, why hide it? This is like the neo-Nazis that try to deny that the Holocaust happened. Uh, so basically you realize that that was totally wrong, but you're following Hitler anyway? People...

"A name's a name." Lol. Yeah, so is Benito Mussolini, Francisco Franco, Slobodan Milosevic, etc. Yes, you should be able to name your kid Adolf, Benito, or Francisco without people freaking out, but adding "Hitler" or "Mussolini" as a middle name sends a pretty clear message, which this guy absolutely knows, and so does everybody else. I can't imagine who he thinks he's fooling. I think I know this guy, actually...he's the same guy who, after testing positive on a drug test, stands there and tells the cops, "I'm clean, man, I swear! I've never taken any drugs!!" I was born at night, son, but I wasn't born last night.

Now, please tell me Fox News accidentally cut and pasted an Onion story.

I dont really have problem with it. Its his right & ShopRite shouldnt have discrimiated against his choice of a kids names whether they or anyone else agrees or not. Thats the price of certain freedoms in this country & if some guy wants to place that kind of energy on his kid, so be it. If the guy has any sense of humor hopefully he named his other kids Jackie Mason Campbell & Kareem Abdul Jabar Campbell. That would almost be worth it.

Yeah, I do feel bad for the kid. Especially in this touchy-feely society we have, where people just can't let the past go, and everything is deemed offensive because of a past connection.

If people would learn to move on this kind of shit wouldn't be an issue.

As far as the kid, for arguements sake, lets assume his father is a borderline neo-nazi. If he is, that kids gonna be brought up the same way, same thoughts, same indoctrination, so... this kid will most likely be proud to say his name is Adolf Hitler Campbell. And Im sure others in his circle will tell him he should be extra proud to have such a fine name.

If the cops need to find him later in life it should be easy at least.

But it doesn't have to be that way

Kids aren't only influenced by their parents.

I mean his dad may be a bit extreme, but it doesn't mean his children will be the same way.

It also matters if his parents shelter him and push their beliefs very strongly on him or if they are more liberal with him and let him interact with people a bit more freely

And though I mostly agree with you, Rock Action, I can understand how some people will be offended by that name. With major events such as the Holocaust, we shouldn't ever forget about it. It's downright ignorant to completely disregard any aspect of world history [though many people do a fine job at it]

It's one thing to never forget the major mistakes humankind has made over the centuries. That's how we learn from our mistakes and become better people. I absolutely agree. :)

But what irks me is when people get offended over the mere mention of the name "Hitler" and so on. Or they treat someone with disdain or fear because of that NAME. I have a problem with that one.

Like the Japanese, and the things that "never happened" in China during WW2. The Japanese government, TO THIS DAY, denies the wholesale slaughter and torture of hundreds of thousands of Chinese civilians during WW2 by their forces, and even calls any accusations slanderous. Talk about nationalism....

Anyone who tries to deny something like that is vile.

The same goes for Holocaust deniers, vile.

I'm writing an essay on the Japanese denial of this for my History course, and it's disgusting how few westerners know this even happened.

I don't want to elaborate, but in the five months that I haven't seen or heard from my son you wouldn't believe what his mother has "him" believing :o:unsure:

There is a difference between refusing to write "Happy Birthday Adolf Hitler Campbell" on a birthday cake and reading a history book and coming across the name and then having a panic attack. That I agree, is ridiculous. The first situation though.....no, I can't agree that it's ridiculous. You name your child Adolf Hitler, you deal with the consequences of that choice. Sorry. It's a free country, you can name your kid Dogshit McSmellyPants if you want. But you don't get to feign disgust when other people look at you like you're a degenerate freak for doing so. And I'm sorry, neo-Nazis are degenerate freaks.

Can't argue with that one. That asshole set his kid up like a bowling pin.
