cousinlouie
I know its not considered his best work, The Manic Nirvana CD in Whole, but as a huge Zep fan, I love it, I broke it out the other night, 1990 or 91 it was released, saw 2 nights of the tour, loved it, listened to it the other night, still love it, love that song, the funny thing is, didnt Understand the whole ZEP, impact then, was only like 21 years old, I know THE ZEP know but, but love that CD, love ZEP better, but great tour, great CD!!!!!!!!! LOL, still remember Watching You as the opening song, and seeing that MANE of hair walk out on stage, great shows great CD, not Album, LOL
Knebby
It's a song related to the girl he was seeing at the time who was considerably younger than him and lived in the US ( "How about 4,000 miles and 21 years - do you think that's enough for a start?") I think he was always very tickled by the humour - never really liked the song much myself.

The Pagemeister
Those lyrics are great - "I slept in the same room as Jimmy Page" I hear a far-away voice on the telephone line Tell me what to think to tell it apart Said how about 4,000 miles, and 21 years Do you think that's enough for a start? I'm up to fifteen thousand and holding Pass the time just smiling at you But this seat belt is kind of exposing Putting pressure on my big love for you My big love for you, my big love for you - my big, my big -- My big love for you, my big love for you - my big, my big -- Will the hostess think I'm exploding? Must have finally got this bird off the ground Girl, oh girl, if my tank's overloading She's weighted and she loves to go down She loves to go down, she loves to go down - she loves, she loves -- She loves to go down, she loves to go down - she loves, she loves -- When I fly your friendly skies how I love the big surprise I will fill your cup with fire - just give me your free air miles When I fly her friendly skies [etc repeated] I take myself down the aisle to the bathroom Are you sure that there's room here for two She says: "fifteen thousand and hold him" As we talk about my big love for you Yes we talk about my big, we talk about my big We talk about my big love for you How I love your friendly skies I will fill your cup with fire (my big, my big, my big) When I fly her friendly skies how I love her big surprise I will fill your cup with fire (she loves, she loves, she loves) Hello baby, I just love to fly, fly, fly I been five days - I've been saving up all of my free air miles I got nylon stockings - I got chocolate bars I got a nervous criminal in a new Lincoln car One time I saw Las Vegas (She loves, my big, she loves) I stopped in a motel - I slept in the same room as Jimmy Page They just finished remodelling it from the '75 tour I got my free air miles (She loves, she loves, my big) When I fly her friendly skies how I love her big surprise I will fill your cup with fire (she loves, my big, she loves) Free air miles - big love Free air miles - big love

It seemed a very loud and troubled album to me, great vocals, great music and totally unexpected "Liars Dance", "Anniversary" and "Watching You" at the end. imho, the album is awesome just like Robert is. At the time I thought Manic Nirvana and Now and Zen were great when they first came out but IMHO looking back they are the weakest two in the catalog and seem more dated than the others. Not vocally, mind you. Just overall. My two faves above all are still Fate Of Nations and Mighty Rearranger.

Not personally blaming you, I expect you got it from one of those lyric sites that never ever get it right.

I tend to gravitate more towards Manic Nirvana than Now and Zen (although I love it) - I like the darker feel of Manic Nirvana and I think the lyrics are pretty intense on many of the songs. Big Love is a bit humorous but no, not my fave off the album.

Rock Action
When was this album released? February 1990. I think Manic Nirvana was an excellent album, second only to Fate Of Nations. Now and Zen was good, but a bit too poppy for my taste. One of the weaker ones really. ("Helen Of Troy" was a notable exception!)
The Pagemeister
This is a really strong album. Big Love is one of the good songs, also Nirvana, SSS & Q, Your Ma Said, Liar's Dance . . . Hurtin Kind is not one of his best songs, but he does a scream there where he channels the 1970 Robert Plant.
Rock Action
This is a really strong album. Big Love is one of the good songs, also Nirvana, SSS & Q, Your Ma Said, Liar's Dance . . . Hurtin Kind is not one of his best songs, but he does a scream there where he channels the 1970 Robert Plant. And that was the last time in the studio you ever heard that scream. He was in top form on that album.

jabe
That song was also used as the opener on his 1988 "Now And Zen" tour, segueing into "Other Arms". Great start to his shows back then. I don't know if this was exclusive when I saw him,or choreographed as part of the show. Anyhow, the band is onstage playing the opening licks of Helen Of Troy.Plant comes up to the mic stand, removes the mic, then heaves the stand several feet behind him. That was an ass-kicking start to an excellent concert.
