granmastaj.zeppelin
"Pres Bush kept us safe" Again allow me to bring up the tiger-repelling rock. See this rock here? It keeps tigers away. You know how I know it keeps tigers away? Since I've had this rock, not one tiger has attacked me. President Bush caused 4,000+ of our men and women to die in two wars, one of which we had no business starting. That's more than the casualties of 9/11. Which happened during his administration, BTW. I wouldn't call that "keeping us safe". And if you mention "oh, we haven't been attacked since then", I'll have to tell you the story of my rock again. You sir or madame, understand!!!! Zanadu
I heard the When The Levee Breaks reference and I knew when I came on the forum that a lot of people here would mention that. Don't think it was an intentional Zep reference. Wasn't the song originally penned by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie, about the Great Missisippi Flood of 1927 and its aftermath? As Obama was making a reference to Katrina, a recipient's association to that song does support his message IMO. Here's the Minnie & McCoy original. SteveAJones
It's always unsettling to hear any politician speak of what is "required" of the citizens. For further examples, see b&w propoganda films from the '30s, most of which are in German.
punksandwich
Actually it started soon after the speech yesterday as noted. Did anyone notice how within Barack's speech he said "When the Levee Breaks" and soon after "Stairway (to rise)<something like that. Pretty cool. For some, they didn't notice. Then denial surfaced of any significance within the text for a Led Zeppelin fan. But that was quickly dispelled by quoted evidence to the contrary. Go read if you haven't already. For further examples, see b&w propoganda films from the '30s, most of which are in German. "What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility -- a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world; duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task."...Barack Obama oooohhh responsibility!!!!...........not that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found it even more unsettling that after the biggest attack on U.S. soil the last dude told us we had a responsibility to go shopping. We can't rely on Obama or anyone to do everything! Prez or not. He will lead us, he will help us. But Lord almighty we need to get educated about the important things in life so the current and future generations have a world to live in. I really don't want my children or grandchildren, etc to live in a war-torn land where pollution cuts the life expectancy in half. And it all starts with Obama getting us as close and far as he can go. Hope people! HOPE!

Obama's socialist health care policies will negatively affect life-expectancy far more than pollution or war, particularly if your a resident of the United States. SteveAJones
I'm not bashing Obama. I hope he goes on to become one of the greatest President's in history. However, it is history which strongly suggests when all is said and done he may well bear far more similarities to Jimmy Carter than Abraham Lincoln. Pb Derigable
This is the dumbest piece of fecal spew you've given us yet. 1) Why would anyone "lynch" him (nice backdoor racist terminology, BTW) for putting his hand on the Bible and 2) Why should anyone give a rat's ass? And it's not just any Bible, it's the Lincoln Bible. That's historical. It has meaning. As an Illinoisan, I'm proud that both these men represent my state, I can only hope that the latter has the legacy of the former, minus the tragic end. First of all stop claiming the state of Illinois or the city of Chicago. You left. Goodbye. I still live here, you don't. I voted, you bitched. You don't see me calling myself a United States Marine, because Im not no more. I never was If you asked honestly.
~tangerine~
Pres Bush has kept us safe.. Barack wants to extend his hand. He hopes it's not answered with a fist. Funny, i don't feel any safer. Our country is bankrupt. That's very sad and very frightening. Money = Power...we are out of money. I don't feel so powerful anymore. Too many people don't have jobs. I wonder how they will support their families. When they can't, what will happen with the crime rate in our country. It's a disaster. As far as terroism is concerned, it's no better, just getting stronger underground. They are patient people. When they strike again, i fear what will happen. Bush never caught the master mind of 9/11. I give him credit for making our country weaker. He had no diplomatic skills. No people skills. No wisdom. No intelligence. blah, blah, blah...He has the lowest approval rating of any President by far. I can't even stand to talk about him anymore. I'm so happy he took his stupid grin, got on his plane, and flew out of Washington, D.C. Good riddance, moron. edit: http://www.miamiherald.com/inauguration/story/863517.html
SteveAJones
Bush never caught the master mind of 9/11. The master mind (Osama Bin Laden) hasn't said anything for years. Perhaps he was pulverized in a bombabardment? "Citizens of the world" - Obama in Berlin "My fellow citizens" - Obama in D.C. Praise the Messiah...pass the Kool Aid... I think Osama woulda died of disease or old age before he is killed in an air strike. These people are not dumb, though it does not take a genius to do these things. Bush failed us, in fact he took his time when informed of the 9/11 attacks. As president, you need to take action immediately to things like 9/11 or any sort of crisis. I tried to feel sympathy for that man but really i could not get there. He only made poor decision after poor decision. Diplomacy was not even relative to him. By your argument,<Americans then have the highest life expectancy in the world because it is the only major developed country not to have a national health care system? Just check out mortality rates of other industrializecd countries and you will see that this is not the case In any event,it will be interesting to see if Obama's "socialism" can exceed the socialism that was practised by those free-maket interlopers the Bush Administration with their borrow-and-spend to oblivion policies
spats
My only question is what was on -aretha franklin's head? was that a satellite, or a warming device or something, there has to be a reason. Am i the only one who found it annoying that on almost every tv show they had some fashion designer on and then they went to to analyze the wives were wearing. Who gives a frick??? If this was the Golden Globes or the Oscars fine. But this was more important than that. And what was with The Obamas doing that slow dancing stuff at the Balls and Beyonce singing "at last". Why were they doing that stuff? Is that really important. I thought i was watching a chick flick.

If 9/11 happen because of Bush, than we are safe because of Bush, or those two things are just freak acts of god. When they raised the speed limits, more people died, when they lowered speed limits, less people die. How is one caused by the speed limit, but not the other one.
