lzzoso Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Jimmy Page: "Hoover Nose". According to one of the books I have read, John Bindon calls Jimmy this because whenever Jimmy entered a room where the others were doing cocaine, Jimmy would come in and snort up a bunch of coke. Hence the name. Quote
ms_zeppelin94 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 "Planty" I dk how popular it is, but I've heard it used quite a lot Quote
trampled-under-grant Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 "Plantations"-Robert Plant was given to him because he was always making jokes/acting silly. Quote

ninelives Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 "Plantations"-Robert Plant was given to him because he was always making jokes/acting silly. I don't think people refer to him as such but plantations refer to the comments he makes Quote
ledzepfvr Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 jimmy was what..?!uhmm.. ungenerous?! lol someone, somewhere, mentioned that nickname to point that he wasn't generous Jimmy wasn't given that name because he was ungenerous. In the early days of Led Zeppelin when the band need money for traveling, production etc he was the one fronting the money. Hence "Led Wallet" Quote
SteveAJones Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 In the early days of Led Zeppelin when the band need money for traveling, production etc he was the one fronting the money. Hence "Led Wallet" Not exactly. Peter Grant secured an advance of $200,000 from Atlantic Records in November 1968 (then the biggest deal of its kind for a new band). Robert Plant and John Bonham were originally brought into the band on salary. Jimmy's reputation for being tight with a buck preceded Led Zeppelin. Peter Grant recalled Jimmy contacting him via an international long distance call to discuss the new lineup and said it was uncharacteristic of him to do something like that at his own expense. Quote

Peter Grant recalled Jimmy contacting him via an international long distance call to discuss the new lineup and said it was uncharacteristic of him to do something like that at his own expense. Peter did get that advance from the record company but I read that Jimmy financed the 1st album himself so as to have artistic control and not have the record company remix any tracks. And while Robert and Bonzo got a salary, Jimmy and John Paul did not take any pay for their first tour. They saw that as a financial investment that would have a payoff later. " Led Wallet" was coined and given to Jimmy because of his thrifty ways. A hold over habit from his Yardbird days when the were lucky to take home a decent check after everyone else took their cut. Peter did knock those practices up side down. Quote
dpat Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Didn't Richard Cole (ugh) say that the members of the band in the early daze would refer to Jimmy as "the old lady," because he (not Robert) spent so much time in the mirror trying to get his hair 'just right'? Quote

Rumour has it Robert likes to fiddle about in gardens and grow things. Makes sense, he has sheep with RP in red inked on their arses. Quote
