Kiwi_Zep_Fan87 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 (edited) Well, as much as my parents are against me watching the royal wedding, I watched it any way. While watching it, both my parents talked in between and made all kinds of jeering remarks. Look, I ain't no fan of the royals, but, I just wanted to watch the wedding in peace without any shit from the people around me and obviously, that didn't happen. What makes me a bit stunned is the fact that my mom is the biggest hypocrite. My dad openly hates the royals and thinks that they are a "pampered lot". But, my mom was enjoying the wedding ceremony between Charles and Camilla because it involved a lot of gossip and pretty much in her words "shit hitting the fan". She even told my dad to "shut it" while he was talking during the ceremony but when it came to a "normal, boring and non-controversial wedding" like the one held for William and Kate, she sighed and loudly asked, if "the channel could be changed so that she doesn't die of boredoom". Honestly, with all due respect, what a hyprocrite! Ha! I guess it's pretty much her way or the "dreaded" wrong way! To me, this was just a wedding between two people who love each other and it was (in my eyes), a refreshing change from all the shit going on right now in the world and I seriously hated the fact that I had to literally apologise to my parents like a million times for watching the wedding on T.V. I felt like I was living in a dictatorship and not a household. Sorry about the negativity but I just have to rant here. Sorry about that. Bottom line : I respect the fact that my parents can't stand the royals and are in no way interested in an event like this, but my question is, why the hell can't they respect me and tolerate the fact that I want to watch the event anyway, inspite of the fact that they don't like this at all?! I mean, we are "supposedly" a family and that's pretty much the least we can do and tolerate each others dislikes, so to speak!! Anyway, thank goodness for live streaming online! At least, I have my own laptop!! Edited April 29, 2011 by Kiwi_Zep_Fan87 Quote
lzzoso Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I could actually care less about the "Royal" wedding in a country where I am not a citizen. The only reason that I would give notice and pay any attention is because this country happens to be Great Britain. Monarchs and Dynasties do not mean anything to me because I have been born and raised in a "Democracy". The United Kingdom may be a Monarchy in tradition but in reality is a Socialist nation. Think of the BBC. They may have free trade and open markets, however, the government still runs the major industries. Remember Dennis Healy and his 90% percent tax on Led Zeppelin during Earl's Court 1975. Led Zeppelin actually left their own country the very next day after their last show at Earl's Court due to the heavy taxes levied at them. (Also when Robert was severely injuried in his accident in Rhodes shortly thereafter, he had to wait an extra half hour before he could land in the U.K., again, because of the hefty taxes that were put upon him). If that were not enough, Robert had to recuperate on the "tax free" island of Jersey, away from his very injured wife, Maureen and away from his daughter Carmen and little boy Karac. Quote

Magic Fills the Air Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I had the wedding on in the background, yes I know I said I wasn't going to watch! I thought Kate's dress was stunning, and I really tuned in to hear the hymn Jerusalem from Westminster Abbey. I love that hymn. Quote
zeplives66 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Best wishes to Princess Catherine and Prince William! Quote

MINI_Zoso Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 So here I am, a 47 year old divorced crane operator in rural Canada, HUGE LED ZEPPELIN fan, well duh, rough around the edges, and I just finished watching the wedding! Gotta admit there were several spots I desperately wanted fast forward through, but on the whole it was pretty good. Silver Rider...bravo There are a few others here that have impressed me with the comments they made. Congratulations to the new Duke and Dutches. And to think, my ex's name is Catherine Elizabeth too...I was going to say more here but I'll leave it at that. Quote

I have had to pay for this wedding today and i was not invited :-(. I want American citizenship or is the American dream dead now??! You never paid for the wedding, Kates Family & The Royal Family footed the bill. As Knebby said "The Royal Family" cost us £1 a year. Could you afford the Health care cost in America, it would be a lot more than a pound a year i'm guessing. Now for some factual information for the Republican mindset to consider. The Crown Estate. http://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/our_portfolio.htm "Our total capital value is over £6.6 billion. Over the last ten years the capital value of the estate has increased by £2.6 billion and we have paid a total of £1.9 billion to the Treasury." That means that the Queen has paid £109 billion in Taxes over a ten year period, and has recieved back around £15 million a year, so tax of 90% is paid on her monies, and people complain about tax exiles who paid the same percentage of tax. http://www.royal.gov.uk/pdf/civil%20list%20report%202010/Civil%20List%20Report%202010.pdf "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN" Quote

SteveAJones Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I haven't been following the coverage and won't be bothered to watch it. Even so, it does seem to me they are a lovely couple and William of course is a fine man who lost his famous mother at such a young age. Wishing them both happiness and love. Quote

Juliet Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 I don't like to dampen the day but I did not like the "fascinator" and/or hat that one of Prince Andrew's daughters wore...it was a bit much...she was sitting behind the Queen.... Juliet PS I did not see this earlier but William and Kate drove out of the Palace en route to Clarence House in Charles' convertible......there were ballons on the back and the licence plate read JU5T WED... now that is so retro, totally groovy and cool..... cate Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Both of Prince Andrews looked awful.... Sad to say they have the same dress sense as their Mother, she always got it wrong as well... Quote

Silver Rider Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 (edited) Ah, the hats...I like the blue one with the dragonfly, and the color of the dress as well. The other looked too bland. She needed a color pop of pink, coral or green and a hat that was less vertical (unless Beatrice is really short and petite) and less hard in the design. The ribbon and bow motif on the beige hat was too large. If the motif had been smaller with softer bows and ribbons and some color, it would have looked less harsh and plain. Even though the beige hat was kind of fun, it tried too hard and didn't quite work. Trying to make her look too understated and conservative to offset the dorky design in the hat was probably not the best plan. hollywoodreporter.com I liked the pleated skirt and the crisp lines of the coat, but again the taupe beige was too conservative next to her sister's intense blue. I think one bow to soften the square neckline would have been sufficient on the blue dress. Bows at the bodice made it too busy and detracted from the natural allure of the lines of the torso. That is really a beautiful brocade fabric in the bodice of the blue dress. dailymail.co.uk Some of the hats looked a little awkward. Fun, maybe, but...one nice advantage provided by the vertical hats is that they make petite ladies appear taller. Joss Stone looked great in coral. i.dailymail.co.uk Excellent color and elegant neckline on the electric blue sheath. i.dailymail.co.uk Turquoise and orange color pops worked well. i.dailymail.co.uk Nicely designed dress in shirred panels and well-placed seams complemented the natural lines of the torso. .dailymail.co.uk Princess Letizia of Spain dressed really well for this occasion. i.dailymail.co.uk Edited April 30, 2011 by Silver Rider Quote

Magic Fills the Air Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) ^^That's a bit cynical. I hope, and believe, that they'll follow the Queen's and Prince Philip's example and stay together through thick and thin. Cate I agree with you about the vulgar humour. It's not needed. Yes, there seems to a general consensus that Andrew's daughters were the worst dressed at the wedding. One of their outfits looked like it had been borrowed from the set of a pantomime! Also Victoria Beckham looked like she was going to a funeral, and could of at least tried to smile. Maybe her new line of super-expensive handbags aren't selling very well! Kiwi_Zep_Fan87 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) I get that there are people on this forum who couldn't care less about the royal wedding. Now, my question is, if you are not interested, then why don't you just leave this thread alone and move on? Quit your pretty pathetic attempts at vulgar humour and sarcasm. It is not funny. In fact, it is exceptionally annoying. There are people like me, who are interested in this sort of thing and that's my choice. For goodness sake, do the decent thing and shut it! I do not usually lose my temper much around here and I try to be as nice as I can, but this time, something inside me snapped. Can't help it. Sorry. Edited April 30, 2011 by Kiwi_Zep_Fan87 Quote
Black_Dog_90 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Great news. I don't usually watch events like this and I'm not that crazy about royals at all but this was really a good and happy event. They really seem like a lovely couple and cool people. I didn't watch the whole event, just some of it but it looked really good. Best wishes to Prince William and Kate Middleton. Quote

Sad attempt at humor...hahahaha And btw.....they are just as prone to jokes as any public figure. Joy Behar had a Great show last night poking fun at the whole thing, great laughs. Lighten up. Quote
