JIMMY PAGE ON THIS DAY (Archive)

Recommended Posts

I'm aware of a highly credible but unsubstantiated report Jimmy participated in a jam session with Eric Clapton, Charlie Watts, John Entwhistle and Louis Bertignac of Telephone at Glyn Johns' 42nd birthday party held somewhere in New York sometime in Feb 1984.

That sounds pretty cool - I've really only ever heard about the (supposed) animosity between the two during the recording of the debut album.

Jimmy Page attended a theatrical show in London, according to several Argentinean news sites.

"The Fuerza Bruta company opened its new show in London (…) one of the famous attendees was none other than Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin's historical guitarist. It seems as though (Page) was so fascinated with Fuerza Bruta that he took his picture with one of the cast members".

The screenshot is from La Voz del Interior newspaper online where the story was posted: http://vos.lavoz.com...an-fuerza-bruta

I'm guessing that they will be 70% old mixed with 30% new from now on to make the most out of the work Peter Makowski is doing.

Peter mentioned anncouments too. I hope they will all be new soon and we will find what these are. After all, Jimmy is still the exceutive producer.

Ok, no album announcement today. But there is a new On This Day entry!

20 MAR 1986

'ASYLUM' BY BOX OF FROGS WAS RELEASED

There was a department store in London called Whiteleys, which was the first department store in the city before Selfridges or Harrods, fuelled by the ethic that they could get anything for their customer from a ‘pin to an elephant’. Unfortunately, Mr Whiteley was shot in his offices by his disowned son, but the store still exists today by name and dimension.

Redan Place is a side road to Whiteleys where the studio Redan Recorders was situated and this is where 'Strange Land', the Box of Frogs album was recorded. I overdubbed on 'Asylum’. Box of Frogs were Jim McCarty (drums) and Chris Dreja (guitar) from the Yardbirds and John Fiddler (vocals), from Medicine Head. It was terrific to work with Cat Stevens and Yardbirds producer Paul Samwell–Smith, who also played bass on the sessions – someone I greatly admired. It was good to play with Jim and Chris again.
