kingzoso
The Paul Butterfield Blues Band Chic Deep Purple Peter Gabriel Hall and Oates Kiss LL Cool J The Meters Nirvana N.W.A. The Replacements Linda Ronstadt Cat Stevens Link Wray Yes The Zombies Out of this lot, who do you think deserves to be Inducted? I think that a couple of them are fairly obvious, like Deep Purple and Yes (though that does not mean anything to the actual people who vote, being fairly obvious, that is). I think that Nirvana is a given just because they supposedly started a musical revolution (or re-evaluation) of Music in the early 1990's. I would like to see Hall and Oates and N.W.A. get in also and even the (original) Kiss. Gene Simmons may be a crass and self-exploiting egomaniac but Kiss, in my opinion, made some good songs and music in the mid 1970's. Anyway... DropDown
N.W.A. gets nominated yet giants like Neil Sedaka are overlooked...kinda speaks volumes about the state of music today. In any event, Deep Purple, Yes, Kiss, Linda Ronstadt, Hall&Oates....it's high time they were in, though I'm pulling for The Meters and "Mr.Rumble". Charles J. White
It is a farce and an embarrassment - the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame should be treated as such, I view it with outright opprobrium! How is it possible that rock bands that have huge international followings for decades across generational lines such Deep Purple, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Kiss, and Whitesnake who play sold out stadiums and arenas around the world and have sold millions of albums are ignored while NWA, Hall & Oates, and Linda Ronstadt are treated like kings… The Rock n Roll Hall of Shame… “2007 vote controversy On March 14, 2007, two days after that year's induction ceremony, Roger Friedman of Fox News published an article claiming that The Dave Clark Five should have been the fifth inductee, as they had more votes than inductee Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. The article went on to say "Jann Wenner used a technicality about the day votes were due in. In reality, The Dave Clark Five got six more votes than Grandmaster Flash. But he felt we couldn't go another year without a rap act."[38] The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame would later deny fixing the vote, although they did not deny that late votes were received, saying, "No. There is a format and rules and procedure. There is a specific time when the votes have to be in, and then they are counted. The bands with the top five votes got in."[39] The Dave Clark Five was subsequently nominated again and then inducted the following year.[40]” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_and_Roll_Hall_of_Fame Yan/Jan/Yjan or whatever his name is from Rolling Stone Magazine is a total and complete loser, looking forward to his magazine going bankrupt! pottedplant
OOPS. I misread the title of the thread. I thought this was about the song writing awards. Zep is, of course, already in the R&R Hall of Fame, as well they should be.
the chase
A very good list once again... and all deserving.. These last 2 years have been much better. I wonder if Yes and Deep Purple do get in... which lineups will get the nod... Will the original members of Yes get in?, The 90125 guys? or just the Classic lineup?.. Same with Deep Purple... Linda Ronstadt is a shoe in and should have been in years ago.. I'm pleasantly surprised for Peter Gabriel.. seeing he just got in a few years ago with Genesis.. One big complaint ... they nominated the groundbreaking Kraftwerk last year .. but not this year! and yeah some of the constant snubs are odd ...The Moody Blues, ELO, ELP Jethro Tull......... Neil Sedaka.. and on and on..
FireOpal
Yes!? Yes!! Has hell frozen over? Amazing. Yes is very, very deserving - all incarnations of Yes. If they induct the classic-era band (Fragile, Close to the Edge), I hope they will somehow include drummer Alan White, who came on just after. He's been steadfast these 40 years and is a consummate musician.

60blues
I was just shocked that Link Wray wasn't in already...!!!??? Saw him about a decade ago in a small club...thought my ears were going to bleed but loved every minute of it. Was fortunate enough to meet him afterwards ..a very friendly and gracious man. They have such a skewed sense of who gets nominated...its so random.... that I don't pay much attention to these yearly " nominations" as they are such a farce..but I do plan on visiting the Hall someday to see the memorabilia that is in there. 54Tangerine
For my money it should be Yes or Nirvana. I would not be disappointed to see Deep Purple or The Zombies. Hall & Oates have a worthy catalogue but his kiss is not on my list. Link Wray would also be a good choice but would be a long shot.....it would be awesome if he got the nod! Disco Duck
I don't know what criteria sports writers use to select players for Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame but one thing I've noticed: every eligible MLB player who amassed 3,000 plus hits in his career eventually gets in. The only exception is Pete Rose, and of course, he was banned by MLB. Does a comparable criteria exist in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame selection process? If so, what is it? 60blues
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll. The Foundation’s nominating committee selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of more than 600 artists, historians and members of the music industry. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes - and more than 50 percent of the vote - are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year. Link Wray's " Rumble" was released as a single in 1958....his first record Link Wray and the Wraymen was released in 1960.....we are far along from the required 25 year eligibility! Regarding " significance and influence"......many a guitarist current and former will cite Link as an influence and his use of overdrive is definitely a contribution to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll. To me there is a little more depth to Link's contribution than........" oh oh here she comes....watch out boy she'll chew you up....oh oh here she comes.....she's a maneater..." Walter
I believe Robert Plant should be nominated. His solo work has sold well, has been diverse and extensive, he's been recognize by various award groups - namely the Grammy's - and has had a great amount of influence, vocally and visually, on others.
