Thanks Freak Out! is a good choice too. and if you can find it, Imaginary Diseases is an excellent live album, all instrumental with a 12 piece band, in 1972. Over-Nite Sentation is a great start if you didn't heard much of Frank's music. or Joe's Garage and Sheik Yerbouti for the humoristic songs. another great live album is You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 2. Talk about anything ZAPPA in here!! How's it going "kaztor" as well as our fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics? AAAAHHH HHHHAAA!!!! I LOVE FRANK ZAPPA! FRANK ZAPPA LIVES! I pretty much love all of his albums but the ones that stand out to me are the "FREAK OUT" album from 1966, the "200 MOTELS" album from 1971 and "THE MAN FROM UTOPIA" album from 1983. The genre didn't matter-rhythm and blues, do-wop, jazz, classical- Frank Zappa embraced them all and folded them all into his own compositions. It was great hearing Zappa's music played live and sung by a former member that member being Ray White. JTM Posted July 26, 2010 Share Posted July 26, 2010 Went to see ZPZ last night..25/7/10 at the Echo Arena Liverpool......There were no guest spots from former MOI members, nevertheless Dweez and the band put on a great show......Some of the steg head security knob'eads acted like twats but thats to be expected in these days of over the top safety consiousness. He was some overtestosteroned futbol fan!! I recently saw ZPZ and it was just amazing. How 'underknown' by the masses, while other's get such high praise, the vegetable doesn't far fall from the vine as Dweezil plays with the chops of his dad. Dweez himself should be in the top 10 of that "best electric guitarist" list on that other thread. But too many would go, WHO ? Get exposed!!!! I read about that incident in Frank Zappa's autobiography another story the guy told was he felt they hadn't given him the value for his money. The rest of the ZPZ band is also very talented. It also is the start of a birthday celebration for Zappa -- he would have been 70 on Dec. 21 -- that will include the tribute band Zappa Plays Zappa. That group, which is headed up by Frank's son Dweezil, will perform the album "Apostrophe(')" in its entirety while on tour this fall and winter. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake declared Sept. 19 as Frank Zappa Day in Baltimore at the ceremony attended by his widow, Gail, and sons Dweezil and Ahmet. The bust is on display at the Southeast Anchor Library. The bust is a replica of one created by artist Konstantinas Bogdanas that is on display in Vilnius, Lithuania. Three Lithuanians -- Saulius Paukstys, Saulius Pilinkus and Arturas Baublys -- hatched the idea of honoring Zappa in Maryland. They attended the unveiling along with Vilnius Mayor Vilius Navickas. The dedication was followed by a performance by Zappa Plays Zappa, which will launches the "70th birthday" tour Nov. 6 in London. The U.S. leg runs Dec. 1-19. Zappa Plays Zappa will be performing the legendary "Apostrophe(')" in its running order as part of the shows along with Frank Zappa material that has not been played on previous Zappa Plays Zappa tours. Dweezil, in announcing the tour, wrote that the band "will be performing with [Frank] once again via the technological wonderment of enhanced video." Frank Zappa, who died of prostate cancer in 1993 at his home in Los Angeles, addressed Congress on the dangers of placing warning labels on CDs, saying they would lead to censorship in the arts.
