Actor Leslie Nielsen, best known for his film roles in "Airplane" and "The Naked Gun" series, died Sunday of complications from pneumonia, his family said.

Nielsen, 84, died in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, surrounded by his wife and friends.

"In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to the charity of your choice," the family said in a statement.

Easily one of the best comedy actors of the past 30 yrs. I already have most of his films; this has prompted me to get the rest.

He played Commander J.J. Adams in 'Forbidden Planet' (1956)

That movie scared the crap out of me as a kid.

:(

Dracula: Dead and Loving It is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

As far as I know it isn't available on DVD?

Always good for a laugh was Les and a damn fine serious actor in his early years too.

As a kid I used to watch Disney's Swamp Fox on TV.

RIP mate.
