So what is your favourite band from the 80's?...

for me: Aerosmith, Guns & Roses and some Van Halen...

Except for Guns n' Roses, all of those bands were formed in the 70s.

As for bands actually formed (and/or who first released their first album) in the 80s, my list of favorites would go something like this:

R.E.M.

U2

10,000 Maniacs

The Replacements

The Long Ryders

Del Fuegos

The Radiators

Lone Justice

Los Lobos

David Lindley & El Rayo-X

Indigo Girls

Uncle Tupelo

Drivin' n' Cryin'

Guadalcanal Diary

Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble

I love U2. So Im not putting an X through this entire decade. Whew! But as for the 90's-ah nevermind.

I'm with you on that. Love Los Lobos and though I may get thrashed... love U2 as well. I'm not an eighties basher. Just had to look a little harder :)

Here are some of the bands I used to like back then, with my fave albums by them in the parentheses...

Siouxsie and the Banshees (Juju, Kiss in the Dreamhouse, Hyæna, Tinderbox)

The Cure (The Top, Kiss Me)

Echo and the Bunnymen (Porcupine, and Ocean Rain is a masterly album)

Prince (Around the World in a Day, Sign 'o the Times)

The Police (Synchronicity is my fave by the band)

Queen (The Works, A Kind of Magic, The Miracle, Live Magic)

Simple Minds (New Gold Dream, Once Upon a Time)

Eurythmics (The Touch)

Ultravox (Vienna)

Propaganda (A Secret Wish)

Laurie Anderson (Big Science)

Brian Eno (My Life in the Bush of Ghosts)

Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians (Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars)

World Party (Goodbye Jumbo)

Robert Plant (Pictures at Eleven, Shaken 'n' Stirred)

Robbie Robertson (Robbie Robertson)

Van Halen (Diver Down, 1984 - my fave Van Halen albums in fact)

There was some damn good music made back then. B)

And let me add, Bowie was great - wasn't until after 1985 or so that his music started to decline, because Let's Dance was a good fun album, and all those early to mid-80's singles he did, some of them with others, were really good. I mean who doesn't like 'Cat People', 'Under Pressure' (with Queen) or 'Dancin' in the Streets' (with Mick Jagger)?

We love this one! My husband has been a tremendous fan of Eno for decades and My Life in the Bush of Ghosts is one of our favorite Eno albums. You probably know that it was remastered in '06 and you can sample and remix here: http://bush-of-ghosts.com/remix/bush_of_ghosts.htm

Lords Of The New Church (Stiv Bators rules!)

Bangles (the first album is top notch)

Cramps (really a 70's band, but very productive in the 80's)

Sonic Youth

U2

Kingdom Come (got slagged for bein Zep-ish, but they sounded very 80's anyway. I still love their debut record)

Metallica (I don't care for 90's and 00's stuff, but find it diffucult not to love Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets)

Mötley Crüe (SHOUT AT THE DEVIL!!!)

Lucinda Williams

Steve Earl

Iron Maiden

Tom Verlaine

That's what I come to think of for the moment.
