The Bridgestone Super Bowl halftime show is one of the most anticipated musical events of the year. More than 151 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year's show. The Super Bowl and halftime show will be broadcast worldwide in more than 230 countries and territories. The Who join an esteemed list of recent halftime acts that includes Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, and Paul McCartney. Few bands have had a more lasting impact on the rock era and the reverberating pop culture than The Who. Emerging in the mid-1960s as a new and incendiary force in rock 'n roll, their brash style and poignant storytelling garnered them one of music's most passionate followings, with the legendary foursome blazing a searing new template for rock, punk, and everything after. They need shorten half time and get rid of some rinky dink natioanl TV act. Pete and Roger should be ashamed of themselves touring as The Who. The band has not been a rock act since Keith Moon's passing. Their sound is absolutely lack luster with the Ent. Suggestion -- Bring out the old glory day pros and allow them to drool on themselves. A band like The Who (or whatever you want to call them) is an act that the organizers and producers feel would cater to the largest demographic so that more people keep their butts in front of the TV to watch, rather than go to the kitchen to grab more chips and dip. Daltrey and Townshend and six other guys on stage does not make it The Who, not even close. When halftime comes around I'll either walk out of the room or flip the channel to something else. When John Entwistle died, he took the Who sound with him. I wish Townshend would finally realize this. Enough already for God sakes. Regards; I try to agree with this angle, and I really do see it, but the so much of the Who comes from the mind of Pete Townshend/voiced by Roger Daltrey that I say they have the right to call themselves whatever the hell they want. I don't think it's a reflection on how bad today's music is (which it is), but I think that they are going with old nostalgia acts (Rolling Stones, The Who, Bruce Springsteen etc.) is because of the "wardrobe malfunction" Janet Jackson had at the 2003 Super Bowl. The people in charge of this thing are hedging their bets that if the half time performers are 50-70 year olds, that they are less likely to do anything shocking and controversial onstage than a 20-30 something contemporary artist. You guys saying that without moon the loon and the ox it wont be the same should realise that although it wont be the same without them, they are still the greatest live act of all time, besides, on drums is ringo starrs son zak starkey and keith taught him drums and was his godfather. they've used keyboards in their songs since Who's Next so bringing on another guy to play keys for them shouldnt be a problem really a problem Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Zak Starkey was the next best thing to Moon when he joined the three remaining members. When JE passed away though....well like I said on page one, "my" Who no longer exists. Child AbuseWatch.net objects to Pete Townshend performing because of his 2003 arrest by British police on suspicion of possessing child pornography. He was eventually cleared but placed on a sex offenders registry for five years as part of a formal police caution for accessing a website containing images of child abuse. The Pompano Beach group's founder and CEO Evin Daly told the South Florida Sun Sentinel newspaper that their concerns are focused on Townshend. "I'm a fan of the band, I grew up with The Who. Pete Townshend is the only issue, and the issue is that he's a former registered sex offender," Daly said. "The issue is, it sends the wrong message to American families." He did not return phone or e-mail messages on Friday. In a Dec. 17 letter to Daly, Joe Browne, the NFL's executive vice-president of communications and public affairs, said the league was aware of Townshend's arrest. He also noted Townshend's charity work. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told The Associated Press on Friday that Townshend and The Who will perform in the Feb. 7 halftime show at LandShark Stadium in Miami. "U.K. police cleared him since he was doing research for a project on child abuse," McCarthy said.
