In the last days, I just registred how much great music is forgotten, how much great musicians never had the success they deserved and how much music is worth to be heard. My favourite forgotten treasure is "Victor", a Rock opera by Rigoni/Schönherz recorded in the mid seventies. It tells the story of the son of a clown, who hates the circus, rambles around in the whole world and gets enlightened at the end. The music is a mixture of classic hard rock with a breath-taking guitar and a roaring hammond organ, and orchestral passages. It is just amazing and as good as every rock opera around. UK digitally remastered reissue of the Spooky Tooth/Mott The Hoople guitarist's 1972 solo album. Gottdiscs. 2004. Audio Remasterer: Andrew Thompson. Personnel includes: Luther Grosvenor (guitar), Chris Woods (saxophone); John Hawken (organ); Trevor Burton (bass guitar); Mike Giles (drums); Jim Capaldi, Mick Ralphs, Mike Kellie, Paul Bennett, Trevor Lucas (background vocals). He had some great musicians play on it. He was a british blues/folk musician which unfortunatly passed away in 1976 only 30 years old. Anyway, he released a couple of great albums and there are also a few new compilations out there with additional material. Jumping At Shadows is probably his most known tune. Tony Newman ex Jeff Beck Group actually formed the band recruiting James Black & Reid Hudson. Black and Hudson were Canadians from Victoria, British Columbia who pioneered Canadian West Coast music prior to moving to England. The band played extensively on the UK college circuit in 1969 before signing to Vertigo. Their debut album 'May Blitz' in 1970 was heavy and featured a grotesque cartoon cover. The first album sold moderately and a follow up 'The 2nd Of May' was recorded in 1971. Unfortunately despite being an excellent album full of heavy original numbers the album flopped. The band were dropped by Vertigo shortly after. Black and Hudson disappeared into oblivion (They actually returned to Canada after the break up of May Blitz) but Newman played with many bands throughout the 70's including Three Man Army, Marc Bolan, David Bowie & Mick Ronson, Chris Spedding and David Coverdale's Whitesnake. Both of their albums are in high demand on the collectors market. In 1992 both of the albums were remastered onto CD. Sadly one of the UK's lost treasures. Their music lives on through collectors and fans worldwide. Note: A friend of mine saw the band perform at Leas Cliff Hall, Folkestone, England in 1971. He said "..they were bloody excellent. I met them also, nice guys..." What are your favourite forgotten treasures? How's it going "lucyinthesky" as well as my fellow die hard hard core ZEPPELIN fanatics. "lucyinthesky," this is a good question. I was also contemplating writing a thread about this forgotten family band but now is the best time to mention this band. You're all probably going to laugh at me for mentioning this band but I love to write things that surprise people. This band had a successful comeback this year at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. This successful band has sold over 90 Million records worldwide and counting and are not in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame yet where they deserve to be. One of the members was also voted one of the greatest Teen Idols in the 1970's as well as all-time. This legendary band also had a member and his younger sister on a highly successful TV show that lasted 4 years in the mid to late 1970's. The younger sister would also be a contestant on ABC's popular "Dancing With The Stars" TV show last year and came in third place. The family I'm talking about is THE OSMONDS. For those of you that thought or believed that this band does not know how to Rock n' Roll, I dare you to buy and check out THE OSMONDS' "PHASE III (1971)," "CRAZY HORSES (1972)," "THE PLAN (1973)" and "BRAINSTORM (1976) albums, their Hard Rock music will change your mind quickly despite going against their father's wishes as well as their religious beliefs. You're talking about a band that played Bubble Gum Music, Pop Music, Hard Rock Music, Soul Music, Disco Music and Country Music. How many bands can you say did all of that? You may be asking yourself "how did the Osmonds get forgotten and lost in Rock n' Roll history?" Simple, the band took a back seat and focused primarily on the successful Donny & Marie show as engineers, arrangers and producers thus forgetting all of the achievements and accomplishments that this band once did in the early 1970's. It is also fact that THE OSMONDS are the ONLY band (Next to Michael Jackson) that had screams at their concerts that were about as close to Beatlemania as you're ever going to get. I know, I witnessed it! It is just too bad that this legendary band did not get the recognition that they truly deserved. I feel that their time is coming in being inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, their past worldwide popularity and music is a true testament that brings back the Rock n' Roll spirit whose sellout concerts were once close to Beatlemania. I forgot to say that I have always been in love with Marie Osmond and I always will. What do all of you, my fellow ZEPPELIN fanatics think of THE OSMONDS? ROCK ON!
