boogie Posted February 8, 2008 Share Posted February 8, 2008 in 1976 i went to a robin trower show, could not wait... packed house, philadelphia, spectrum, and three guys, dressed in flowing white outfits, came on to open the show, " i want you to please welcome, Rush". right from the start, we knew this was something special. who are these guys? they got no radio play in philly at all then. total suprise. their sound was so BIG. we just kept saying "wholly fuck" over and over. and just laughing, for the joy of the sound. (ok, maybe it was the pot at this point). but they were better then any band we had ever seen/heard. they ended the show with 2112. oh my god!!!....."attention all planets of the solar federation,(KA BOOM, [bLINDING FLASH POT] ), attention all planets of the solar federation,(KA BOOM), attenton all planets of the solar federation,(KA BOOM), WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL, WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL"...BOOM... BOOOM.. I've been thinking about going to a Rush concert in May....they are one of my 12 yo daughter's favorite classic rock groups from the few songs she has heard (and I haven't heard much more than that, never bought any of their stuff). I knew the band were amazing and I had heard they were amazing live, but to be there was out of this world. It was the best light show I have ever witnessed and the songs were ten times more powerful than the album renditions. I recommend them to anyone if they are passing through your town in the future. Should I get tickets? ~~Becky i asked the same question in a diff thread, they all say GO!!! andyou should get some cd's. i prefer the early one's, but many like everything. i think the 1st 10 albums maybe the foundation of the show. i'm sure you can find the set list on line, and buy cd's to get to know them better. they are my 3rd fav band after zep, and the beatles. have fun at the show. There is a band of sorts on stage and I didn't recognize any of them. The whole scene was so foreign to me, I felt like I was on another planet. They start playing the theme song to The Beverly Hillbillies and the singer starts with "Come and listen to my story of a man named Jed".....I blurt out to nobody in particular, "Who is that". Some chick turns to me and says, "That's the Dictators". I'm like oh....The singer was Handsome Dick Manitoba, the handsomest man in rock and roll. They played two sets. xmas Posted February 9, 2008 Share Posted February 9, 2008 I saw Journey not the Steve Perry version,the original with Greg Rollie.Right about the time they released Look Into The Future.It was at a hockey rink.I was able to stand right in front of the stage.Schon was simply amazing and the band was tight as could be.I was 16 or 17 at the time and had never been that close to the stage.They were one of my favorite bands at the time and being that close was mind blowing.They put on a great show.I will never forget it. I went under protest to appease a girlfriend and was so blown away that I could not move or talk. They played mostly stuff from their only Major Label album, "Magazine". Small club, packed house, middle of the summer and those guys delivered the goods. My then girlfriend thought I was mad at her because I wouldn't talk to her during the show! Seen 'em a couple of times since but it was never as good. Also, front row Jeff Beck on either his Jeff or Who Else tour maybe. I was 3 feet from him all night at the Orpheum in Boston. Blew my mind. AL Thanks for your input too AL. That settles it, I'm going. And not to brag (ok, am crowing a little) but I know I can get free tix to their Reno show on May 3rd. There's a casino there that gives my family any perks we want; that's how I got best-of-the-house seats to Moody Blues, Pavarotti, and The Who in the past. Wish we had the same kind of deal at some casino in Vegas, haaa. But Reno has been getting some name acts in recent years so I'm not complaining. In Oakmount Park, Rick Emmitt used to jam with Alex with doobies flowing everywhere. I was there but remember little detail...i'm sure that you understand. 1st concert that blew me away was Johnny Winter. I could not believe anybody could play guitar like that at my age(12). The first time I saw Manics I was welling up too. And I cried like a big girl when I saw Stereophonics but that's because I was having obsessional teenage mental problems of the "KELLY! Roxie Posted March 30, 2008 Share Posted March 30, 2008 I was really impressed with Pearl Jam when I first saw them at Lollapalooza in 1992. I was a fan of theirs at the time, but I was more in a Soundgarden mode at that show. But during their set and afterwards I couldn't stop raving about how great they were live. But then the few times I saw them after that, I wasn't as impressed.
