EddieShouldHaveListened Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 I think this is one song that I really haven't heard many versions of. My favorites would have to be from 6/21/77, 5/24/75 and 8/4/79. The endings of 6/21 and 8/4 are ridiculous because of Bonham's incredible fills. But i also put 5/24/75 because it has unique pace to it that is just destructive. Quote
EzyEric Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 None ever really compared to 08-04-79. I recall 02-12-75 being pretty good too. Quote
chef free Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 The Kashmir from 6/23/77 is a favorite! Quote
tom kid Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 The Kashmir from 6/23/77 is a favorite! They get quite lost in the middle section of Kashmir in that show. For me it would be these dates: 12/2/75 24/5/75 21/5/77 21/6/77 17/7/77 4/8/79 Quote
johnlennon696 Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 My fave has always been Earls Court 25.05.1975, mainly for Plant's vocal Quote
mstork Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 I actually thought the version from the O2 in 2007 was jaw droppingly good... Quote
Walter Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 I have always enjoyed the Destroyer version. Love that Plant wail and the great sound of that version. The '75 versions are ruined for me because of Percy's voice issues. Quote
chef free Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 I actually thought the version from the O2 in 2007 was jaw droppingly good... Oh yeah!! I always forget to include this excellent show. Really, Kashmir might be the penultimate Zep tune. It has everything that's great about Zep music crammed into one song, the guitar army, the mystical lyrics, the soaring vocal lines, the ridiculously complex polyrythmic drum beats and some of JPJ's best keyboards. djzoso Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Kashmir at knebworth it solidified me as a zeppelin fan when i was 8 (almost eleven years ago) god it blew my mind Quote

The '75 versions are ruined for me because of Percy's voice issues. Yeah same here for the most part in regards to the '75 shows, although Earls Court is excellent. The Destroyer version is good, apart from when Page's guitar cuts out and it takes him a while to get it going again. Quote
kaiser Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 I've never liked live versions of Kashmir until the 02 performance. Spectacular version & the highlight of the show. Quote
The Rover Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 (edited) I have personally experienced Kashmir 6 times. March 4, 1975 March 5, 1975 April 1, 1977 May 21, 1977 May 22, 1977 1st Page & Plant Tour The Best experienced Kashmir was by far the May 22, 1977 performance in Ft. Worth, Texas The least was Page and Plant.... it may have been technically good, but folks, there was just no POWER to it. It just paled to any of the Led Zeppelin performances. I love the O2 performance. I do not have the bootlegs of other shows to compare. The 5/22/77 performance was an other-worldly out-of-the-body good experience to see and hear. I do love the Kashmir with the intro "Dawn At The Great Pyramid" by the London Symphony Orchestra on their CD Kashmir: Symphonic Led Zeppelin http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/1169034/a/Kashmir:+Symphonic+Led+Zeppelin.htm I also like and appreciate the power of the collaboration between Jimmy and Puff Daddy riffing "Kashmir" with "Come With Me". Here's a powerful live version from Hamburg.... Wish I coulda been there ! Get Down with the Homies !! Edited November 14, 2009 by The Rover Quote
badgeholder Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Cleveland 5-28-77 (The Destroyer II) Mighty version Quote
John Bonham Fan Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 my favorite one so far would have to be the one at knebworth in 1979. This would also have to be the first led zeppelin song I ever really got into. Quote
poortom Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 I actually thought the version from the O2 in 2007 was jaw droppingly good... My fav too.....because i was there lol Quote
Yupter Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 6/26/77 is fantastic, despite the audio quality it still comes through amazing. I'd say that the 23rd has the best WS/BMS/Kashmir Quote
LedZeppe75 Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 None ever really compared to 08-04-79. I recall 02-12-75 being pretty good too. I love 2/12/1975 too. 5/25/1975 is also prety amazing. I guess I really like the 1975 versions the best, a lot of that is attributed to the fact that Jimmy was using his Les Paul still, and I love the tone much more than the Danelectro. Quote
zepps_apprentice Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 i agree 8/04/79 is still my favorite. everything is played perfectly Quote
Nutrocker Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Never really a fan of live "Kashmir"- it always sounds very thin compared to the studio version to me. That said, I thought the 2007 02 Reunion rendition owned the fucking show! Best version I've ever heard, including the studio version. Quote
jonohull Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 6/21/77. No question. You can't tell me the 10 seconds just after the 5:00 mark doesn't nearly make you pass out from ecstasy. The rest of the song exhausts me. This is in Plant's top 5 vocal performances ever. Quote
Wolfman Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) Cleveland 5-28-77 (The Destroyer II) Mighty version That's my favorite too. Edited January 6, 2010 by Wolfman Quote
I WAS THERE 6-23-1977 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) The Kashmir from 6/23/77 is a favorite! Humm, that was the night JPJ lost it during that song.....a butchered version for sure. Edited January 16, 2010 by I WAS THERE 6-23-1977 Quote
Gospel Zone Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Is there a thread for the most over rated Led Zeppelin song? If so, I'd say Kashmir. About the only time I really want to hear it is when I'm listening to Physical Graffiti in it's entirety. So my reply to the question of this thread is the original studio version. Quote
bigstickbonzo Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I've been diggin the No Quarter version lately. But I agree with some folks, the bottom end isn't heavy at all. I personally just like the musical arraignments and spot on jamming throughout. That being said, I also have to agree that Kashmir made the 02 Show. Quote
audioservant Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I actually thought the version from the O2 in 2007 was jaw droppingly good... I totally agree with you! For me its's the best version because of the heavy sound Quote
